Not many differences but the cupra just seems so much more desirable! Im 20 now and on my fr insurance is 903 mods declared. I tried a cupra with just saying it was lowered and came back at 1750 :|

Its worth taking into account that the cars themselves are similarly priced in terms of buying and if you were to buy an fr, how much would you spend modifying it? If you are willing to spend allot, then if you think about it the double insurance is quite cheap if you were going to upgrade all the brakes, exhaust, front mount, re-map's etc on the fr as its already done on the cupra. All the cupra needs doing is coilies, rear anti-roll bar and a decent map and your pretty much sorted.

Only reason i held back and got an fr is because i didnt have the 2200 at the time in cash to pay insurance and because the cupras dont come in candy white and i found a minter candy white fr :D

I bought my cupra new at 23 with 0 ncb and 1 accident at 21 and I only paid £1500 with elephant

I renewed earlier this year, 28 and 6yrs ncb (achieved using bonus accelerator) and paid £323 fully comp, no claims protected, legal cover etc with Aviva

My brother renewed his Xsara HDI 110 today and the cheapest he could get was £416, he's 33 and has 5 yrs no claims (as he had a bike for a few yrs and his ncb ran out)

It's the post code & name lottery when it comes to car insurance I reckon

Cupra vs. FR differences are
Motor:
- Turbo
- Injector
- Transmission
- Air Intake
- Intercooler

Interior:
- Seats
- Dials
- Shift knoob
- Steering wheel
- Pedal covers
- Floor mats (Seat Sport)
- Handbrake cover
- Vent clips

Exterior:
- Front, rear bumpers
- Taillights
- Rear wing
- Rims
- Engine cover

Safety:
- Brakes
- In my country FR's don't have ESP. FR's have ASR and Cupra TDI have ESP.

The Cupra is double the insurance of an FR even for an old git like me. It really dont make sense when you think of risk as even the standard FR is quick enough to catch you out at times esp braking too late etc.
Its only 30 bhp and has far better brakes so more Cupra's must get stolen i guess

+1 on the age and insurance - it's one of the few benefits of age.

Also agree on the theft side - try doing a cupra lokkalike and declaring it to insurance - proper slap in the pocket.
But go for a re-map and brakes on a 130 TDi sport and the difference was only £60 a year.

Also - the cost of damage done in a minor front end shunt is much higher with a cupra.
The FMIC and pipework that gets killed in a front end collision is expensive compared to the FR.

Since last posting I went and bought one but I got a petrol one instead. Such an awesome car, really happy I did the change just can't wait till all the mods are on. It's also really nice not to have all the vibration from the diesel engine.

One thing I likete most is all the black headlining an pillars with all the red detailing, makes it a much nicer place to be. Just wish they did the cupras in White haha

Wait until you are 32 - insurance becomes cheap! £190 last year on the Cupra but it jumped by £80 last renewal!?

The Cupra can be tiresome on crappy roads, as it's a very harsh ride! I believe the FR copes much better with potholes etc, which you may want to consider.

Wish I was 32 haha times that by 10 for me :(

I'd say both are thesame comfortwise, neither the best if you want comfort, coilovers are actually tad more comfortable, definitely no worse anyway, can't wait for mine to arrive for the cupra!
