TDi FR Service Indicator

Had the service warning come on today for the first time, car has done 8883 miles. It says to service in 500 miles or 424 days. Is this correct? Our 02 Golf Tdi gives the service warning 2000 miles before it is due and counts down from there. 500 miles or 14 months seem weird parameters to me. Also the car normally does around 90 miles per day when I use it, about half of that on dual carriageways, so DPF has not been a problem so far.
I'm tempted to stretch the service to 10000 miles. Is this likely to cause me any problems at all (warranty wise)? Thanks, Gordon.

It's not correct (it's due to it still being in foreign distance mode), it's normal.
It's due a service every 10,000miles or 15,000km.
15k km is 9320(ish) miles. So it's perfectly normal.

Just leave it until 10k miles and take it for a service. You'll have about 600 miles of "service now" messages to put up with each time you start the car.

yeah wait till 10k, it wont invalidate your warranty and just ask the stealer to check it when you leave it with them, as jono said you just have to put up with the annoying beep and warning light

Mine came on at the same mileage, I booked it in, but by the time I got there it had done 10,000 anyway ... I was led to beleive by the salesman that it was a 2 year service job, he failed to tell me about the 10,000 mile bit though, I assumed it was a 20,000 service like my previous cars ..

Mine came on at exactly 10,000 miles and pressing the trip counter button said 500 miles or 14 days to the service.

Service Warning

Hi I noticed this too when my Leon started telling me that a service was due in around 1200 miles or 554 days. Given I do around 90 miles per day the 554 days seems wholly inaccurate. I would have expected it to say around 20 days.

As the miles to service reduced so did the days to service, however it still remained at over 400 days.

Based on some rough calculations the number of days is closer to the time it will take you to reach 60000 miles or the end of the warrenty!

Is the service interval still every 12 months even if you haven't reached 10,000? Do you just wait until the service indicator tells you that the service is due?

People are reading the message wrong ...

It says service in xxx miles OR xxx days.

Remember the service schedule is 10,000 miles or 2 years .. whichever is soonest.

Mine has always give me a 1,500 mile countdown though, not sure why others are getting less warnings.

Well ... dunno!

I'm sure its always in the 500 day + each time it tells me i need a service, and seeing as theres only 365 days in a single year ... i assume it must be two.

Seems strange though, usually 10,000 and 1 year, or 20,000 2 year for services...

I was under the impression it was every 10k or every year whichever comes further, thats what the dealer told me when I bought my leon and what my reminder sticker says they put in the corner of the windscreen.

I plan to take my car to a VAT Registered garage to have the 1st service done on the car I know this won't void my warranty but I not yet confirmed with the dealers I am sure they will make some kind of bad excuse not to go there ...(stealers charge to much for a service and the distance is quite far to travel am still trying to contact seat if they do a courstey car service...)

It is every 10,000 miles or 1 year between services, whichever comes first.

My service indicator only came on at 10K but at that point showed 500 miles or 30 days to the service.

Service Warning

So some people get a warning that is sensible

ie service in 500 miles or 30 days

others get a message which is not

ie service in 800 miles or 454 days

So do I have a fault with my car in that the service warning period in terms of days is clearly wrong yet for some it seems likely to be correct or is it a case of adjusting a WAG com setting?:-o
