May sound like a stupid question but....

Just dropped the oil on my tdi 110, where can I find the oil filter?

Front right of the engine bay, beneath the big black plastic sound-deadening panel. Number 9 in the photo below:

The top cap unscrews to reveal a cylindrical pleated paper filter. You can get a special socket to fit the cap, or use a strap wrench (carefully!)

thankyou boys, all done and dusted, cant beleive the difference the oil change and air filter made! Roll on saturday for the remap!

cheers guys. oil and filter change tomorrow.
what end of the sump id deepest?front or rear ?or is it flat?

edit:
ooh, forgot to ask, aprt from removing the dipstick, how does the placcy cover come off?(presuming they are all the same?)

Nasty cough you have there.

You don't say what car you're asking about. Your profile shows you have a Skoda Octavia VRS, which I can't help you with.

The smart answer to your question is that the deepest part of the sump is the bit with the drain plug in it. :D

On my ASV engine, the sump plug is rear-facing, so if that's what you have and you're on a slope, park nose-high.

The top cover comes off by removing the three obvious nuts.

O and just to add whats that big ball thing?? on the picture just above the oil filter?

And the black stick thing coming out infront of the timing belt cover

not sure on either myself, but the stick thing "looks" like some kind of engine damper to me.
i am very new to tdi engine of this kind(old tm bedford lorry was a doddle compared to this).
i have been searching tdi threads all evening.

The big ball is the vacuum reservoir.

The nearest thing I can see to "the black stick thing coming out infront of the timing belt cover" is part of the poly-v belt tensioner - I don't know if it's the tensioning spring or a damper.

Part looks like this
