I own a 2001 TDi sport (110) and it says in the homologation certificate, that I can fit 185/60/14 tyres on it (and 185/55/15, 195/45/16). Is this true? The standard 15" wheels seem to be a tight fit and the spare "space saver" tyre is also 15".

I can get a set of 14" winter tyres and steel wheels for a very good price, that's why I'm asking.

Thanks

M.

yes, the profile of the tyre makes up for the difference in wheel size. So the smaller 14" ones have a higher side profile (60)to the tyre hence the circumfirance is about the same as a 15" with a slightly lower profile (55), and the same again if you go up to 16" like me, the lower profile of 45 means about the same diameter.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough:redface:.

I know the diameter of the tyre, compared to 185/55/15, is OK. I'm worried if the steel wheels (14") will fit. The original wheels and the spare are both 15".

Tada! The answer is.... they DON'T FIT:censored: [:@]

Even if it says so in the homologation certificate.

Looks like it's going to be 15" winter tyres on Seat sport alu wheels and new 16" wheels and tyres for next spring.
