Hi,

Last year I changed both the green-top temp sender, and the actual thermostat - bacause the temp was fluctuating like crazy.

All was fine, until this week...

Usually temp gauge reaches 90 (and stays there) within 5 minutes max.

This week, its taken approx 10 min to even begin to move, and after 20 min its still only approx half-way towards 90.

Changing the aircon on/off or changing the temp doesn't really do anything.

Leaving the car at idle, the temp still slowly moves up, but nowhere near 90.

Interestingly, when I turned the engine OFF the temp gauge then began to rise...

Does this mean the cooling fan is permanently ON?

Do I need to change the temp sender or thermostat again?

I checked for error codes, and there are NONE!

Help me please :)

Question: what damage is this currently causing to my car, as I've a few 50 mile plus journeys to make next week.

Why isn't the temperature reaching 90?

Weird that there is no error code, as last time there was

does anyone know how I can check the temp on the climate control?

I remember there are a few button presses and it can show, speed, temp, etc
 
I know of a thermostat that failed when it was driven down the road.
Wiggle it lol
You'll get less mpg
If the stat as failed, it's bypassing the stat instead of being held by it.

So until I get this fixed, what damage am I causing by driving the car?

I notice no reduction in MPG, but then I didn't when the thermostat went last year.

Worth noting, when I got the thermostat changed last year, the garage tested the old 'broken' thermostat, and said there was NOTHING wrong with it, but fitting the new thermostat did correct the problem.

Could the problem be the temperature sender?

I'd really like to try the climate control temp code, so I can at least see if the temperature is actually reaching 90.

Anyone know what I have to press on the climate control? I used to have it in a word doc, but I cannot find it :-(
 
Hi,

I believe this is it?

1. Press Fan Down, Temperature Colder, ECON at the same time.
2. Use the temperature control buttons to cycle through the various channels.
3. Press ECON to go back to normal. (It goes back automatically when you restart the car.)

Mine behaved the same and I thought it was the CTS, after a vagcom scan lead me to believe it was. After changing it for a brand new one from Sere motors it still didn't work and changing the stat fixed it.

Hi,

I now know what to do with the climate control to see if the temp is actually reaching 90 or not.

I assume if it is, then the temp sender needs replacing, or dodgy wires.

If temp actually stays low, then the thermostat needs replacing.
 
hiya, i'm having same issues at mo m8

to check your coolant temp in the A/C display hold recirc button and press up. then select no 51 and press recirc again. mine is holding at 90 on that display but gauge doesnt match. Dont bother with those cheap CTS sensors i bought one had error code and EML lit,cheap chinnese copies i think. bought an more expensive one from euro car parts which is better no errors. but still not showing 90 on the gauge, my gauge is showing around 70 now but if i'm stopped for a while it'll show 90c. i also had a new stat about 6months ago
 
I'm using a cheap ebay green sensor and have been for ages, works perfect.

If your temp rises when stopped and goes down when driving it's your stat.
 
u must of been lucky m8, i was passing euros yesterday i thought i'd try one of their sensors. car is much better on it was not a happy car using the cheaper sensor, used a lot of fuel

u could be right about the stat though? :-( if i have to change it agian i'll buy one from sere i think
