The LCR.... A future classic or not

well on that basis. ctr is far more popular round here than the lcr. so its rarish and looks good so yes.
but. classic makes me think of triumph stags and modern classic would be a skyline.

traumpat, we;re talking TODAYS cars becoming classics.. not already well-respected cars like the Mexico. No one is debating their status.
Predicting future classics isn't easy.. but we're taking a whack at it. And in my eyes, machines like the Focus RS have already attained that status. It's supreme.. and it isn't all about speed. By todays standards, the Mexico sure as hell isn't quick!!

rs2000's and mexico's are already considered classic's, Ford boys go nuts for them.
And thats the point, if you like the badge, youll love the car. If SEAT bring out a couple more very fast cars and raise even more brand awareness in the future then more people will look at the LCR as the good old starting point.
The point shouldnt be about wether or not it will achieve classic status, but surely wether people 'in the know' remember it fondly for just what it is, An underated , powerful , great looking bargain.
I can think of a couple of other marques whichhave cars falling into that category, Alfa being one for sure.
Dont fret on classic status, revel in the knowledge that you know something all the others dont, and they may just come around to our way of thinking anyway.

But isnt the sierra and escort cosworths now classed as chav cars anyway so the fact that it is being brought by chavs doesnt necesarily mean its not gonna be a classic. The ST will never be a classic they are common as muck the RS i think def will and the Clio V6 will also fall into that category. CTR again i think there are to many of them. Alfa Romeo GTV V6 i think is another potenial classic.
I think the LCR will hold god value which will scare off the chavs i have to admit i have seen more chavs driving the LC recently but then the other day i saw 3 chavs in a brand new CTR.
I just thought the LCR came out of no where was well respected had its problems as all classic cars do but still kept coming back for more. Its a wolf in sheeps clothing

IMO neither the Sierra nor Escort Cosworths are classes as chav, nor are they chav. Since the day they were built, they picked up a bad name for being rudeboy/wideboy chariots in and around Essex.
That hasn't changed. Black 4wd Saph Cossies are the pinnacle of Essex wheels, in my eyes.. and I f*****g love it!!!!!!!! Chav is another word for what has always been common-place in the UK. Under-privileged and empoverished young kids with attitude issues and loveless childhoods. Stick them behind a £16,000 Escort Cosworth and that makes them a rich-boy *****.. not a chav.. surely? We're a million miles from Corsas and Fiestas here.. we're talking about Cosworth!

yep but the mexico was very special in its day. i dont see the ctr/lcr as being that special today.

The Mexico and cars of its genre were designed and produced in a different economic climate.. not to mention under less tight emissions restrictions. We won't ever see a return to the days of carbs, twin or single. They just put out too much "harmful fumes."

I think one thing the LCR should be remembered for is it was the best car made using the MkIV golf platform. An LCR could eat a GTi for breakfast and the R32 is too heavy, particularly up front. Factor on top of this the LCR's superb looks and you've got a pretty strong case I think.

i reckon it might. i like em now due to the rarety something a little bit special.
As said the ST has its electric orange colour. but i also thing the Cupra R is probably almost the only car to actually look gorgeous in yellow.

Lots of weight from the huge engine (which only produces 15bhp more than the LCRs engine) plus the weight and transmission losses from the 4wd system slow it down. Will be quicker in the wet naturally but in the dry the LCR edges it (I know because my mates got one).
I dont see the car ever having classic status if im honest!
Its a great motor all round but i dont think its got the following of say a Golf GTI and when it was released, wasnt regarded as the no.1 - most reviews ive seen say the handling is a bit stodgy and they seem to like the Civic Type R....personally, of this generation, i think the Type R will be the one to own in terms of future classic potential.
I bought mine because it was good value for money, fast and seated 4 with a fair boot....I only really stumbled across it by accident.....and it wasnt really on my list of cars i wanted to own! that said, im really pleased with it soo far and having driven golf gti's, civic type r's etc. like its strong power delivery throughout the rev range instead of it being top end. Also I think its less 'obvious' than many similarly aged hot hatches.
My prediction for the cars value is that a few mint examples may hold their value a bit better over the years....but due to it not having the 'classic' status, doubt it will be good news say in 7-10 years from now.

Can't see it becomming a classic in the same vein as the Golf mk1 gti, or even the big bumber mk2 gti 16v to be honest, no doubt it is a great car.
Classic cars from the late 70's to 80's even 90's got to be.... some of the few.

I bought a mint sierra xr4i in 1988, thinking it would go future classic, and it still hasn't managed that almost 20 years later, so i sadly feel the lc or lcr will not either, probably cos they are a little more mass produced, than some of the above...

no.... if your talking nova's the only one to obtain classic status was and is the nova sport, built in 1984-5 1.3 ohc twin 40 webbers, straight thu exhaust, bilsteins as standard, recaro interior, vauxhall only built 502, special graphics, most went to junior motor sport such as rallying, but some did escape to the road, my ex g/f had one and was storming little car, huge fun to drive, and deceptivily quick...
