Just changed the thermostat on my 1.6 but now temp gets up to 120 with the 3 beeps.

New one went in fine, bled engine for a while and temp guage sat at 90, peaked at 95 for a few secs but went to 90 and stayed there. Kept it running, revved it to 3000 to 4000ish and topped up header tank as required and ran it a bit longer just to make sure it was all fine and it stayed at 90. Put the header tank cap on after about 10 minutes of bleeding and went for a little drive. Within 400metres it had over heated. Could it be a buggered t'stat or have I done something wrong? Help please!!!

Definitely the right one, its all sorted now I think. Just had another half hour plus of bleeding and massaging the pipes, it gave a big cough, spat coolant into the air and seemed to sort itself out. Drove about 2 miles and it sat rock steady at 90. Will find out for definite when I go get dominos pizza in a bit!!!

Cheers

It didn't fix it. Temp now sits at 60' unless I'm stationary then it starts to rise but drops off as soon as I'm moving again.

I've had another go at bleeding it but noticed that if I squeeze any coolant pipes near the t'stat they are soft. Also tried opening the little drain near the bottom right of the radiator to see if any coolant flows out and nothing did.

Have I got a massive air lock somewhere or am I looking at something else, perhaps a blocked radiator? Any ideas?

Cheers James

Yep, Only took the 2 screws out when I changed t'stat and they went straight back in. Just been for another go at bleeding and driving it again. When static temp gets up to 90 ish and stays there with the fans coming on occaisionally. At slow speed, less than 40, temp builds slowly towards 90 but as soon as I get on a faster road it drops off again
