When does it change bud? Mine goes up to 90 and down to zero but it's my wiring from the temp sender to the dash that's causing my issue. If it goes up to 90 when you're sitting still and then down when you're driving, I would agree with thermostat though.:)

Have a look at awesomes website for thermostat and new o ring for 1.8t engine. Get one for around £12-14.

Huge price differences, but are they really that difference in quality?

i think there are 2 different ones on the lcr, they open at different times. the one i removed from mine said 80 degrees on and the one i replaced it with was 87 degrees. i checked with local tps and they confirmed this was correct. Suspect difference in price may have something to do with different opening times? might be wrong

i just fitted an 88c one yesterday and i have to say it seems to work well...i did an 80 mile trip today and the engine temp displayed a constant 90 on the gauge however when i checked the bottom hose from the stat it would appear that it didnt even open

I guess as its so cold today it probably wouldnt,,,i parked up and revved the engine hoping to raise the temp to open the stat but the temp just wouldnt go up!!! the bottom of the block was toasty warm but not hot....i hope its supposed to be like that ?

did you replace the thermostat in the right way round? with the spring side towards the block?

you should be able to get the engine up to temp stood still to open the stat :)

yeah there is only 1 one it can fit as its also got to fit into the tappered plastic tube i will try again tomorrow to get it up to temperature, i did find though that the gasget that came with the stat doesnt really fit so i had to use the old one - i never checked the stat before i popped it in perhaps i will do that tomorrow!
