Thick White Smoke on Idle

Hello.

I have an issue with my LC.

On idle (Hot or cold) after a couple of minutes my exhaust starts smoking violently.

I can't tell weather its stinks of fuel or oil, but it is thick white, not wispy like condensation.

Possible causes: As i am half way through doing a wire tuck, I have deleted a few bits, EVAP and PCV etc so this could be causing some fuel trim issues but would this cause the smoke ?

Any input would be great, as its rather annoying and it stinks.

Cheers !

Could be coolant, possibly from the turbo as stated above.

Generally:

White smoke = coolant
Black smoke = fuel
Blue smoke = oil

Only a rule of thumb mind you.

I did and try to smell for coolant in the smoke as i thought it could be head-gasket, but it doesn't smell sweet...

If it is my turbo, what is it that's gone ? I haven't noticed any power loss ?

Just a very outside possibility, check your brake fluid, if the diaphragm in your brake servo has perforated, the vac line can suck fluid into the engine, when it burns it produces white smoke, it is remote though, far more likely to be turbo seal, but if it turns out not to be it's worth a check.

Cheers Chris

As I said, only a rule of thumb. Not pissing on your parade or anything, just an alternative point of view.

No offence taken mate, there are so many different forms of smoke when something fails on an engine, and some are very similar, headgasket and turbos are pretty much the same smoke wise, just headgasket smells of coolant.

I did try smelling for that sickly glycol smell in it, but it doesn't. If it is my turbo on its way out, will it fail catastrophically or can i keep driving it ? i.e. what are the effects of blown oil seals ?

could be oil seals but some times it can just be one of them, I very drought it would be the head gasket as the engines are pretty solid IF....IF looked after, for a h/g you can check in the coolant tank and shine a torch into the coolant tank and if its going you can see small bits of oil lying on the surface of the coolant in the tank.let the turbo warm up and cool down it will save a life of a turbo :)

Been doing some reading. Could my decat and 3" down-pipe have caused a change in back pressure which could be forcing oil past the seals ?

id give it a small while 1st mate and see how you get on in a month or so, some times I have seen steam rise from the bonnet as the engine is so warm as compared to bonnet, at best mate just post up a video or pic and then it can shed more light on the problem?
my new exhaust has started to smoke a tiny bit but didn't before I fitted a new one so ill let it bed in 1st till I start to worry but I don't drive it much tbh.did you you do de-cat all in or with the sports cat put in?i was looking at getting a sports cat but its quite abit of moneys:confused:
or did you get the turbo revs pipe I think it is?

I'd run it for a while keeping a close eye on coolant and oil levels..

Doesn't sound like the normal HG symptoms.. More like turbo oil seal. Are you sure the oil is white and not a slight blue too it?

If it stinks, it's more than likely oil as everyone has said.. If you can pull one of your intake/inter cooler pipes off and check for oil in them..
