Put some Cupra bumpers on the Cupra K1 and tune it up. Would be cheaper than a Focus RS :)

Dunno about that. Escort RS Cosworth with some cash spent on it would easily show a Cupra with some cash spent on it the way down the road.

Did you map it though with milltek on?

To be honest if you're bored there are only two solutions, aren't there? Spend the money and heavily mod it to make it an animal or buy something else.

If you've made your mind up just go for it. No point in asking opinions if you're going to disregard them anyway. There was a thread about RS vs Cupra a few weeks ago here. Chopper-Lew will be able to provide a good comparison.

I know its not all about straight line speed but a mapped cupra is quicker in a straight line and i agree that the rs does look the nuts but my friends got one its a chav magnet, the amount of times you hear" fat ride bredrin, spin it,braap braap ect gets abit much

I was thinking of selling mine... but then decided to tune it and really happy with it :) Transformed the car! :) Possibility of moving onto Stage 2..... in time of course.

As for the Focus RS, just cant justify spending that amount of money on a FORD.

Mind you, my ex's next door neighbour has a mint Big Turbo version Escort RS Cosworth :)

But like other people have said, seems like you might of already made your mind up.

Hello mate.

As mentioned, Im lucky enough to have both at the minuite and Ive documented my views on the RS, and in my opinion (at the moment) is the better car.

However, it's a bit unfair as the RS is stage 3 modded to a proven 396 bhp and the The K1 is totally standard, so as you can expect, 160 bhp difference does make the K1 feel 'sluggish' to drive in comparison.

This week, the k1 is getting a downpipe/decat fitted and on sunday a revo stage 2 map will be installed at the scottish seat show so it'll be a slightly fairer comparison after that.

K1 opinions -

I have a white K1 with black wheels and it is a VERY nice looking car, it also has the 5 door practicality that the focus dosent so when my 2 kids are in tow its definatly the more 'sensible' choice.

The brakes on the K1 do without a doubt feel stronger, but remember they are stopping a less powerfull, lighter car.

The suspension is noticably softer on the K1 and it has a more comfortable ride, with slightly softer seats.

RS -

As standard, it obviously has 60 bhp more (forget rumors of them only making 280ish, this will have been fixed at servicing time by fresh dealer uploaded maps) and this is felt mostly in the mid range. The wider tyres (you can fit 235 or 245 width tyres no probs) and trick diff put the power down well. especially coming out of a corner with loads of grip.

There is a very small amount of torque steer, but bizzarly, if you get a decent re-map, it will be all but eliminated. I have less now than I did as standard.

The exhaust note, again as standard is ace. 5 pot burble to me is the next best thing to a V8 and pops and bangs as factory standard is cool.

The interior is of a better material quality, although there are a few annying squeeks that pop up time to time that I cant get rid of.

Interior wise, I have the Lux 2 pack which is worth finding if you can and makes the dash look nicer. Heated front screen + washer jets, voice control, USB memory stick tunes, colour touch screen sat nav, dual climate control, keyless entry, starter button, reversing camera, automatic xenon lights, rain sensing wipers. The K1 has many of them, but its not quite as well specced as the RS.

Running costs -

Quite similar. K1 as standard - about 26 mpg over a month RS @ 396 bhp about 27. I was getting even better out of the RS but have been gunning it quite a lot recently!

Long runs, the RS has a slight advantage in MPG as well. Probably down to the larger turbo not spooling up as quick. Ive seen nearly 38 mpg on a 200 mile long run recently.

All the rest - tax/insurance etc are more or less identical. The RS eats front tyres as you would expect though. It might be true of the K1 when its re-mapped as well!

All in all, both very tuneable, fast, capable hot hatches. Both have their good/bad sides. Get a test drive in a RS and see how you like it.

The VAG/Ford brand loyalty is a load of tosh IMO. Ford make excellent, well built reliable cars nowadays, as do SEAT. Stigmas from the 80's should be forgotten about. I personally have no brand loyalty and my last few cars have been ford, seat, MG, vauxhall, rover, renault. I'll judge each car for what it is and buy what suits my needs.

Chav immage? do me a favor LOL! not many chavs have 20-30 grand lying around to spend on a motor. Most RS driver are over 30 years old with good jobs, not layabout, gyro-cashing jeremy kyle addicts! It just depends if your worried how people percive you or not. Its like me saying all silver BMW/Audi drivers are boring, pretentious, soul-less w*****s LOL!

Sorry about the long post, but it'll maybe clear up a few points. Any other Q's or if your local and want a spin, give me a shout.

Lew.

PS - green is the best colour no matter what anybody says LOL!

Your looking at the chav thing from the wrong angle, it attracts alot of chav attention ;)

Personaly my next car wont be FWD to much of a waste with this countries weather, as the saying goes no power without control.

Id much rather have an E46 M3 csl for the same money and sell it in a few years for pretty much the same money. Id bet they'd run rings around an RS aswell.

i think you should go for it , if you have that itch for an RS then do it.

i wouldnt take much notice about a cupra is faster , but i do know it is , i embarassed a focus RS recently both of us rolling about 50 and my car was missfiring (when has it not lol) and the look on this guys face was a picture , the standard exhaust did sound lovely popping and banging though.

if i was buying again today it would have to be an RS ,

one comment that has been said is that the cupra interior is bland compared to the focus? tbh i think the silver on the focus dashboard is ghastly ! and too in your face but im just nik picking.

next month im in a similar dilema £20k to spend on my next car , mmmmmmmmmm decsions decsions
