Just checking, you didn't accidentally press the TCS/ESP button and turn it off did you? Its by the handbrake and petrol cap release button... That'll turn the warning light on. On my LC it resets to TCS on (no light) when the ignition is switched off i dont know if the LCR differs.

BTW if the light flashes whilst driving that just indicates its doing something :) Mines always flashing or just on (because its off lol :L)

Congrats on the new car :)

No I didn't press it - I don't have the balls nor the inclination to take the traction control off deliberately! ;) I have been having a bit explore (reading the owners manual now) as this is a far more complex car than my old Fiesta!

The TC is working, I could feel it reigning the car in over tough ground, it just seemed to come on on it's own for a little while, cruising at 60mph on a smooth A road, which is rather odd.

Just went for another short drive, sub 10 minutes and there was no burning smell. Went to the local supermarket and asked a mate who is a qualified mechanic what she thought, her first thought was oil on the engine burning off as the engine gets hot, as it just got new oil yesterday, possible the mechanic splashed some about by accident.

First day down, a few worries, some massive smiles! Everyone who has seen it so far absolutely loves it. It's just such a mean, purposeful looking car. The styling is excellent, it retains the well cut shape of the Leon and adds visual aggression with the big wheels, red brake calipers, front mesh grill etc. It sounds bloody fantastic too, even driving slowly without working the turbo hard, the gentle blowing of the turbo and the slight, satisfied sounding hiss of the dump valve are excellent. Between the glowing red dials, the amazing R seats and the excellent air con / heating system it's a really comfortable, cossetting car to sit in and drive about at night. The sound insulation is excellent too, totally cutting out harsh wind and tyres noise and focusing the growl of the engine inwards. If the ride was not so stiff it would make a great motorway car (better MPG might be required!) but I did not buy it for motorway miles, I bought it because I love hard riding, fast, loud cars.

The engine is an absolute gem, my brother was convinced it was a 5 cyclinder ala the Audi TT, but a quick check online suggests it's only an inline 4. Certainly when it had it's bonnet up the other day with the engine cover on, it only looked like a 4cyl. But still, what a 4 cylinder! It has such a rumbling, offbeat growl (not unlike a 5 cylinder) and imo is probably the best sounding 4 cylinder engine I've heard, baring the boxer engine that Subaru utilise of course. The performance is not bad either!

It gains extra cool points too because you don't see many of them about. I think I've only ever seen one Cupra R of this generation on the road. I've only seen one newer one, but they have not been out so long. Wish me luck, I've got my fingers crossed that I'm in for a good time!

I did see the light flash once or twice while driving quickly-ish over some rather broken roads.
It is meant to do this. Think of it as when your Tyres loose grip the light comes on. You can turn the ESP off by the button next to the fuel cap release( your light will be on constant then tho)

As above the blinking light is the tc kicking in. If theres a fair bit of wheel spinning the light can turn solid, often does that on ice. Its more of a warning if anything.

Try being more progressive with the loud pedal rather than using it as an on/off switch, thats not ment to be insulting but your over powered in 1st and 2nd even 3rd in poor conditions. feed the power in and with decent tyres youll get better traction :)

And a smoother delivery ;) lol pat wanna lend me 4K :D

What kind of mileage are other Cupra R owners getting? I know the manufacturers figures are something like 31mpg for mixed driving, which is obviously a very highball estimate - I got something like 27.8mpg taking it easy-ish last night, but after driving to work and back today (3 minute drive, 5th gear most of the way, not letting the turbo work etc) my average mpg was down to 20.5!

I know driving short trips on a cold engine drops the MPG right down, but I've only done 30 odd miles since I filled up last night and it says I've used nearly a quarter of a tank of petrol already. Running rich perhaps? If the petrol gauge is correct, though I know they can be innacurate while the car is cold, then the "Full" to "empty" mark range is only something like 120 miles - :censored:! Hopefully it will even out after a little bit of driving on slightly longer trips.

I wonder if perhaps the previous owner has fiddled with the ECU to make the car fuel hard and give it some more beans. Perhaps an ECU reset to wipe out any mapping might be on the cards! Either that or I will walk to work more often...

If your guage is anthing like mine its probably lying... sometimes overtaking someone seems to use a tenners worth of fuel lol....

Regarding condensation in the headlights, missus hairdryer works a treat............babyliss if you must know.

Indeed, I think I might save the turbo for those rare occasions when a good clean overtake comes up instead of just wooshing on it for fun

The car drew a crowd at work today, everyone wanted to have a look. I do recall turning her on and giving her a few revs (no turbo obviously) for the benefit of the baying masses. Total head turner and people love the colour, the styling, the sound, the interior etc. Pretty much what made me fall in love with it tbh!
