There's a few K1s running 320bhp+ on piston heads for around the £12k mark which is very reasonable. That's what I'm looking to pay anyways.

Your much better off getting a normal cupra for 2-3k less and putting the kit on

The premium price on a Cupra K1 is totally unfounded. Add the aero bumpers, skirts, spoiler, badge and vxr exhaust to a Cupra and you have a Cupra K1. The V5 even says the same thing as the Cupra K1 was converted at the port of entry when it came to the UK. The only way to tell it apart is to call SEAT

Seems silly that people are willing to buy and sell a 2008/2009 Cupra K1 for the same money as a 2010 Cupra with warranty and most of the issues of the Pre Facelift addressed.

Not all true im afraid

Most K1's are registered as K1's on the logbook, if not then and error at registration has occurred and it can be corrected with a letter from SEAT UK and DVLA

Thread on here says otherwise Irfan. Let me see if I can find it.

Not true mate, a K1 is registered as a K1 on the data base. When insuring a real K1 it comes up as a K1 but if you put all the extras of a K1 on a Cupra you will have to declare them as it will come up as a Cupra on the data base.
So worth considering this as insurance will probly be more on a wanabe K1 as the extras will be classed as "modifications".

Sorry mate but that is not true !
A K1 is registered as a Cupra , check your V5
The bumpers and rear section of exhaust are added by the dealers , they all reach port as standard cupras.
And insurance data bases have most k1 listed as Cupras , use the search function and you will see.
Just out of interest how much have you got your k1 up for ? Is it in the for sale section?
Just seen it , good luck with your sale
Just noticed Al's car valued same as yours without mods
Food for thought.
And tbh adding the bumpers and side skirts and exhaust actually does make a K1 they are the only differences oh and of course the badge on the back everything else is Cupra because that's what they entered the country as.
Simples
And tbh if people are willing to pay the inflated prices because of some ugly plastic then more fool them.

Agreed with what he said - although I believe the kit was fitted at the port of entry by some bodywork trainess going by the quality issues of panel fitment and paint finish reported by many Cupra K1 owners.

Its easy to see which is a genuine SEAT UK Cupra K1 that had its bumpers, skirts, exhaust and badge fitted at the UK port of entry........................................ the bumpers, skirts and exhausts aren't fitted or painted as well as the ones done by good bodyshops as aftermarket fit!!!!!!!!!

Without exception, we had to correct the fit and respray at least part of every K1 bodykit, and re-align the exhaust, on every new K1 we supplied.

More info here - http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=327844&highlight=real+k1

In short, the only way you can tell if it was converted to be a UK Spec Cupra K1 by SEAT (and a Cupra K1 was a Cupra when it arrived in the UK and SEAT fitted it with Aero Bumpers, Aero Skirts, Aero Spoiler, Central Exhaust and Badge) is to call SEAT themselves.

If you wanted to, you could buy the Aero kit and fit it to a Cupra and nobody would ever know the difference unless they were sad enough to call SEAT to check. Even then, they won't have proved anything because the Cupra K1 has no other modifications (power, drivetrain, chassis etc) to warrant the premium price charged by those who sell them.

As said before, the smart money would go on a facelift Cupra for the same money with less gremlins, better finish, remainder of warranty or if you had to have the same body kit as was fitted free of charge to early entry level Reference Sport diesels and the Cupra K1, you can buy a Cupra for £8k, spend out having the Aero body kit, exhaust and badge be fitted professionally and spend what you saved on a remap and other nice bits and pieces.

What are you using to get that info?
Just a question to test the water about your car sales knowledge , of I turned up in said K1 and said wanna part ex would you run the check or would you take face value it was a k1?
Because from looks you can't tell
And if your check came back as a Cupra would you offer less money ? Even though they are Infact the same car just not bolted on at the port.

Just a free Iphone app

and as for what i would do no idea as I don't work in car sales any more, not done for 3 years

As for the cars value yes the K1 will be worth more as its more sought after the same as some colours are worth more than others

Interesting that pic shows a 57 plate car as a Cupra K1 when they didnt come out until 08 plate. Also interesting that was listed as a TSi when the TFSi lump in the Cupra never changed to TSi until 2009.
