completely agree their are benefits as you can insure it as a standard car and not modified

Ok this is very interesting reading. Al, you say you can get a cupra for £2k-£3k less than a K1 then spend the rest on fitting the kit saving money. Isn't the full kit a grand to buy that's before you have it fitted and then painted then there's the added cost of the exhaust. That's bound to cost well over the £3k saving???

Check it out dude. There is a clean black Cupra away to come for sale on another thread - a 2008 car as I recall. He will probably get £8k for it with 38000 miles, FSH and already got some nice bits on it.

Its not going to cost more than £3k to supply and fit an Aero Kit to that car and change the rear silencer to a central one from the stainless left hand Cupra oval already on the car. Speak to David at SERE for a price on the kit and talk to some body shops for a price to paint and fit it ;)

Don't forget you will have to declare all the modifications you make to it and the insurance company will take you for every penny you've got especially if your young :D
Plus when you come to sell if you have a piky buyer they will want a "real K1" and you might lose out on a sale if they do they necessary check via Seat etc.

Luckily (or unlucky lol) for me I'm not a young un lol. Over 35 with full ncb so insurance ain't really an issue.

Al, the kit is £1k all in. I think to have it fitted and painted by a quality bodyshop then buy an exhaust your looking at another £1k. I suppose that's a good saving if you can pick up a cupra for around the £8k mark. It would have to be in white for me tho and come with some very nice mods to start with.

You should be ok then, when i was going to buy my K1 i checked what the premium would be for a K1 and it was £1600 but if i was to convert a Cupra into a K1 it was significantly more as it was a modded car in the insurance company's eyes.

Would be a good idea to still check though as you might lose out over a few years insurance premium if its higher and might be worthwhile sticking to a K1.

Ideally I'd like the K1 as the hassle of converting a cupra into one sounds like a bit of a ball ache. However if there's is a few K's saving by doing so then it's something I'll deffo look into.

And again how does anyone but SEAT know the difference as per the link posted earlier? How do people who think they have bought and insured a Cupra K1 when its actually a Cupra with a body kit know otherwise until they have called SEAT? Big can of worms potentially or more than likely, nobody cares.

Sorry its not a Cupra with a body Kit

K1 was not an option as such it was a version of car much like FR or Stylance, thats why when you search the details on the car it comes up as a K1

Hi Guys,

I have had my cupra (59) for a week now, I was looking at Mk5 GTI's and K1's as first choice. Then I really started looking at the K1's, had a revo'ed one drive past me, and I thought is that a car that I want sitting on my driveway, looks really good in mags and on the net but on my driveway?, was it really me (the answer was no). So then it was FL Cupra vs GTI. The Cupra had a bit more flare imo, and buck for buck was a better deal (I had then moved to looking at Cupra FL vs Mk6 GTI's). Also the interior on the FL Cupra is a bit closer to the VW / Audi interior I think.

If I was giving any advice I would go Cupra (FL), live with it for a few months then think do I want that body kit.

Hope that helps a bit, rememeber same car underneath, but all depends on what you want at the end of the day.

Neil

But in reality it IS just a Cupra with a bodykit and a little K1 badge on the back - what else is different?

Of course the paperwork says K1, but it's paperwork - doesn't mean sh!t.

I'm certainly with Al on this, but then I would be seeing as I have the 'top dog' Cupra ;) :p

Because it comes up as a K1 on the insurance data base like mine did.....
I didn't have to tell them about the kit etc and it wasn't considered a modification which with a Cupra with the kit would be. Saving you money in the long run on insurance premium making the K1 a better buy.

Paper work which would will save you alot of money on insurance premium.
Oh and theirs only one Top Dog :p

I know mate - you are one of the blessed :D lol

But if I was looking for a Cupra within the 10k to 12k bracket I would certainly be looking at a facelift Cupra with lower miles and nicer interior (there's even one or two with those sexy leather seats from the 'R'). The Aero bumpers are ok, but starting to look a bit dated IMHO.

 Do you know something, I didn't even realise i'd made that little pun.

I do see your point with insurance premiums, but then again I don't. You see, my last car i had was a Celica T-Sport just before Toyota stopped making the Celica they brought out the Celica GT - basically the same car as mine but with a bodykit and lowering springs but it commanded a 2k-3k premium on the forecourts. Well I put the same bodykit on and some eibach lowering springs - insurance premium went up by £55.....
