My mate has the mk2 Leon diesel with the full aero kit. He bought if from seat and his insurance didn't need to know that it had the kit fitted as it came from the dealers like that. Why would the cupra be any different???

 Do you know something, I didn't even realise i'd made that little pun.

I do see your point with insurance premiums, but then again I don't. You see, my last car i had was a Celica T-Sport just before Toyota stopped making the Celica they brought out the Celica GT - basically the same car as mine but with a bodykit and lowering springs but it commanded a 2k-3k premium on the forecourts. Well I put the same bodykit on and some eibach lowering springs - insurance premium went up by £55.....

You must be a "little" older than me then lol It would of been and extra £400 to insure a Cupra with K1 kit o so the K1 will pay for it self in 2 or 3 years time. Plus ill be able to sell it with ease as i've noticed with a few potential buyer that have phoned me about my K1, they ask is it registered as a K1 with Seat.

I'm sure it's classed as a modification or a extra, so your mates insurance is probably invalid.

It depends if it was the diesel special edition or not, if it was then its standard, if not then he should have

Sorry its not a Cupra with a body Kit

K1 was not an option as such it was a version of car much like FR or Stylance, thats why when you search the details on the car it comes up as a K1

Have you hovered your cursor over every auto highlighted instance of K1 on here?!

"Just a Leon Cupra, with an Aero kit"

Yes, it was sold as a version of the Leon as a Cupra K1 and that meant it was a Leon Cupra with an Aero kit, central exhaust and a badge.

There have been so many versions of the Leon sold with the same body kit, the Cupra K1 is hardly original or completely unique other than the central exhaust and badge. Cue the Reference Sport, Supercopa the European 300bhp Copa etc etc.

Ideally I'd like the K1 as the hassle of converting a cupra into one sounds like a bit of a ball ache. However if there's is a few K's saving by doing so then it's something I'll deffo look into.

What hassle is there?

Step 1 - Buy the Cupra you want. 2007-2008 models had better clutches and Xenons ss standard
Step 2 - Order the body kit
Step 3 - Shop around recommended body shops and get quotes to have it painted and fitted
Step 4 - Drop car off with body kit
Step 5 - Pick car up. Take original bumpers with you
Step 6 - Sell original bumpers on ebay to get some coin back
Step 7 - Use the money saved on remaps, intakes, RS4 valves, intercoolers, intakes, suspensions etc

This way you have no stone chips and can get any other imperfections tidied when you get the car.

Of course there will be cars for sale with everything done already - depends what you want at the end of the day. There was someone on here had a facelift Cupra in white with the Aero kit and the central exhaust from the Cupra K1 (rear bumper is the same on facelift and pre facelift cars). I did a search but cant find it.

All different versions thou

It's the same as buying a se or a sport you get different spec on different trim levels

Hi matey
i picked up speed blue cupra R on saturday (01st :p ), waited 5 months - and worth everyday.
i know it's early days, but i part ex'd my 59plate FR and i found that car pretty faultless (well except for COMPLETE BREAK FAILURE jan this year lol, due to near side flexi hose severing cos of a plonker technician ((another story)). owned a golf gti before that, and yes they are truly beautiful all rounders, but i do love the leon/cupra.
watch this space :)

Yup - so why would they all look almost the same?

Yes, the spec are different on all, except the Cupra and Cupra K1 - ie no badge on the Cupra ;)

What's the difference between an FR and a cupra? Exterior wise

(I'm actually asking because I haven't keenly looked in a spot the difference fashion but they look dam similar)

You should be ok then, when i was going to buy my K1 i checked what the premium would be for a K1 and it was £1600 but if i was to convert a Cupra into a K1 it was significantly more as it was a modded car in the insurance company's eyes.

Would be a good idea to still check though as you might lose out over a few years insurance premium if its higher and might be worthwhile sticking to a K1.

my Cupra has the best bits from the K1 Parts bin , side skirts and roof spoiler , and imho thats how the Cupra and Cupra R should come stock from factory , but thats another story.
For insurance purposes all extras declared and increased my premium by .............................

nothing , nowt , nada.

in insurance eyes as soon as you mention the word "body kit" you are asking for trouble , if you were to insure a Cupra and say it has the same styling as a K1 im pretty sure it wont affect your premium like we are led to beleive.

When You buy insurance from aviva they ask You for any modifications which are NOT manufactures extras sure if BTCC kit was ordered together with brand new car this is not classified as modification ...

What AVIVA says " A modification is any alternation to a vehicle that was not part of the standard manufacturer's specification, or was not fitted as an option when vehicle was manufactured"

So all the same ones as a ref sport or whatever to a K1 until you put a kit on it

Not entirely - re-read the list.

The FR was the next best model in the line up to mistake for the Cupra anyway on the pre facelift ;)

Oh I forgot I look at everyone's brakes when I go past them

And the reason every Tom, **** and Harry puts a K1 kit on there 1.2 tsi is because it's the best looking kit. (in there opinion of course)

Don't see anyone trying to make there reference sport look like a cupra.

You just wanna hate for the sake of hating. Some people like it some people don't. There's no one going on and on about how subtle/sleeperish/boring/inconspicuous/quiet/dull the cupra looks

Everyone's different man :p plus some people like authenticity. As an extreme example, woul you say a kit car shelby cobra was the same as the real thing? Looks the same ;)
