What I would give to be 17 and naive again!

Agreed lol...I would love to be 17 again racing around country lanes in a MkI fiesta lol

Eh...I'm not sure VW where saying there were problems with the car...my understanding of the issue was that there was some talk about the engine being expensive to produce and that they are potentially investigating alternatives...as any self respecting manufacturer would be doing anyway! Maybe I am wrong and missed the point.

you are correct , exactly what i posted but seems to have been overlooked
lol

mmmmmmm i still think and maintain it is only a minority with issues and these engines are actually pretty solid.

I did comment on the fact, if the engine is expensive to produce thats not the end users problem, its the manufacturers job to refine or improve production.

and thats exactly what i said , maybe if you read the posts myself , steve and rob have made you might actually see that the posts we have put are not negative towards the engine but the woefull SEAT backup all the way through to the dealerships.

we havent come on to this forum to gloat take the piss or piss people off , we have posted in good faith giving advice to people who have got problems from the experience we have had dealing with problems and dealers ourselves , but at the same time we dont deserve to have the piss taken out of us either , just because we drive far superior cars :D well 2 out of 3 of us

if you post here that you have engine problems in the future (i hope not) we will be the first to offer genuine advice and believe it or not we wont take the piss

anyway back on topic

as far as i am aware its a vw engine which runs SEAT software maybe this has been the problem?
i did post a link earlier in the year from a scirroco forum where they thought the problem was in engine tolerances though.
if i find the link i will post it
and no im not having a go at you :p but an apology for calling Rob H a grandad might go a long way !

I called him a Granddad after he got het up not before so I'm not going to apologizes for something small like that, besides he said I behaved like an American which is far worse :D What I said that upset him was so blatantly ridiculous I didn't feel the need for an "smiley" to convey the fact it was meant in jest.

My only point is I don't know what all this info on non relevant engine issues and experiences are even in this thread when its about engine cost in one magazine article.

If the thread was relevant to what you have been posted I'd be all for it. I've seen your posts before and they have been of great help to others with problems and your experience and knowledge are a credit to the site under the relevant circumstances. But in this thread I see them only as worrying (unnecessarily) potential customers.

People have had new engines due to problems. This wouldn't bother me one jot, new engine less miles.. bonus. I would also buy a second hand car with a new engine as I would also see that as a bonus as long as it was still retailing for the correct price due to its age. My Dad had a new engine in his C250 Merc, guess what.. Still engine problems unfortunately looks like the one thing they didn't change (The ECU) was the cause of the problem. Thats Mercedes, a premium brand not just Seat. 2 months it was off the road.

Oh with regards to your comment on superior car.. If I wanted a Leon I'd buy one. Due to mileage I decided against it. After having driven both on track I wouldn't say it was a superior drive... But thats a different topic.

Lets just clear up a couple of things. I havnt a problem with seat and i havent even offered any advise.

I merely pointed out i was looking at maybe buying this car (well polo) but not if VW were bining this engine due to issues

As it turns out its all scare mongering and theres the usual problems as with any engine also that VW were looking at alternatives as its expenisve to produce and not expensive to keep fixing this engine, which aint a bad thing.

^^^and even that was from a dodgy source so most likley is boll@x

Yes the american comment was a low blow ;)

Weyhay we're completely eye to eye now :D :funk:

Close thread IMO.

This thread makes me laugh. I read the article today was only 10 lines. I guess people who hate the engine or never owned the engine, just blown it out of proportion. :)

I agree, this thread has prompted a lot of traffic. Why I do not know, the risk involved with buying anything are the same. Why worry, relax chill out and enjoy the car.

Personally i'd doubt i'd keep it when the warranty expired, but then i change my cars every 18-24 months.

Also lets get minging wi drink and chill...

Mrs B 43 drives like a lunatic.

This afternoon driving back in the Bus and she decides to have a tussle with a Zafira
She went from Henry the mild mannered janitor to Hong Kong Phooey [:@]as the ranting harpy who was driving like her knickers were on fire[:@] in the Zafira cut us up by forcing into the gap between us and the S Max in front of us. The woman then went back in the middle lane and tried to undertake the S Max to no avail, tried to get in and Mrs B went all :censored:&*(% ~**"£ :censored:And the Altea turned into a honking light flashing mobile Xmas tree, woman bottled it swerved had a stroke by the look of her and bogged off into the slow lane:clap:

God help me when we get the Bocanegra back:whistle:

Back to the thread, journalists have a whole lot to answer for. This is a right old 7 page bag of spanners!

Mazdas Renesis rotary engine won engine of the year. Doesn't matter that it's an unreliable hunk of **** that won't get more than 20mpg uses a litre of fuel every 1000 miles, produces more co2 than a turbo v8, turn the engine off cold and you will **** it up, rev it even slightly hard from cold and you will **** it up. Drive it normaly and treat it well chances are you are going to be landed with a rather large repair bill at some point.

Engine of the year? Brilliant.
Sounds like someone that never owned an RX8 let alone any rotary engine...

Ive owned many RX7's from GEN01 all the way to GEN03 (even did a 20B cosmo swap) and one of our employees has owned an RX8 from new. Never once has he changed the motor or done any major repairs other than servicing. As for the fuel economy , its no different than any similar performance car in its price bracket. Its -3*C today and i just phoned him @ 4.55 AM to start his car and let me know if it blows up....no return phone call yet.
Is this a rumor or is it on some VW offical statment???
It is a rumor...

VW has no plans to axe any of the small displacment motors. If anything they want to widen the gap between the big displacement units (W12 , 4.2 V8 , 5.0 V10) etc and the small displacement motors (2.5 , 2.0 , etc). The 1.4 TSI motor has been around (the base motor) for years and VW will continue to use it for years to come.
They will probably ditch the supercharger , increase the displacement and remain turbocharged or ditch the turbocharger and keep it supercharged.

WHatever the case the 1.4 16V FSI motor is going nowhere.
Happy New Year

I'm gutted guy's, you can't all go making friends and agreeing with each other! What am I going to read for entertainment now.....

You're right, this is the politest forum I've followed. In other ones they would have been round each other's houses with baseball bats by now. Well done for keeping it civil.
