Righto, firstly I know I'm a lazy ******* 'cos I can't be arsed to search for any previous threads on this subject.
What I want to know is where do I get 225/40 ZR 18's for my R at a sensible price.
Would prefer GSD's but any other suggestions of REASONABLY :-o priced tyres would be good.
Feck me I have had some ridiculous prices quoted to me today, some bloke I rang even said"Don't carry them in stock mate, what sort of 4x4 is it?" Thick *******.
Suggestions please.

Cheers chaps and chappesses

Gary from Top Gear does loads of stuff for the civic type r forum and his prices are usually very good...he can also post out tyres. Webby is www.topgear2.com but he links to topgear.co.uk for prices. GSD3's are £124.

http://www.topgear.co.uk/acatalog/Goodyear18_inch.html

Try phoning him, might be better idea tbh:- 01282 414413

EDIT

Actually he sells loads of stuff to the CTR forum members at a discount price, i wonder if anyone would be interested in setting up something with him for seatcupra.net if he's game?

Anyone recommend a cheap tyre to suit the R? I only need one new one for a spare and a GSD3 is a no no for the spare due to it's tread pattern. Ideas? Just a half decent one - can source at a good price myself so just need a tyre recommendation, anyone :)

Thanks lads I'll be trying the 'mytyres' place first I think.
They'll be able to do a good price for the tyres for my '4x4'
Bloody hell how did that bloke get a job.
Have a vision of taking the car in and it coming out fitted with those bloody huge Mitsubishi Shogun tyres. :D

Toyo Proxes T1-S is got to be worth a shout as well as the GSD3's...T1-S's are around £100 usually.

Protyre (www.protyre.co.uk) did me GSD3's fitted for 120 each. Not their list price, but very little persuading required. Excellent service (their top fitter had a soft spot for R's - that was the Enfield branch)

Exactly where I get my tyres from, Glen is cool ...when it comes to low profile tyres, its true, they don't take much persuading to knock off a bit of cash ;) Highly recommended

I've just had www.blackcircles.co.uk recommended to me. You select your tyre dimensions and specifications; they give you a list of makes and prices; you select the one you want and then choose a local fitter where they'll be shipped to for fitting. You get a date and time to have you tyres fitted and pay for it all on-line with nothing else to pay.

Sounds pretty good to me :)

Kumho 712 - ok had a look n seems like a good tyre but looks like a directional one to me, so no use as a spare - don't wanna be forcing water under the tyre if it needs to be fitted on the wrong side - anyone know of some other budget ones for a spare?

Aha - now I understand why you don't consider the GSD-3 any use as a spare

I remember Fast Lane mag years ago (as part of their "best UK roads" supplement) ran a Lotus Excel SE from "Dahn Sarf" up Jockland and the A93 to Braemar....fairly Northern Scotland. It's now my favourite UK road...utterly awesome.........but that's another story.

As they reached the highlands they got a puncture and had to fit the spare wheel ~ full alloy but with a Goodyear Eagle (from memory) which of course ended up running "the wrong way". Not many garages up there, so they just left it on.

They commented that it caused no concern whatsoever for their entire journey (alternately dry and damp with some icy patches). It was Mark Hales driving too ~ his racing history is easily traced via the interweb ~ suffice to say I trust his comments.

I think it only makes a significant diff if it's REALLY wet.

I treat my spare as exactly that ~ never leave it on longer than absolutely necessary. Even if it were the same tyre it'd be more or less heavily treaded than the other tyre on that axle, so I wouldn't push hard whilst t was fitted.

Just some thoughts..........

Yep you got it in one mik about running the spare the wrong way - agree I'd only leave it on for a short duration, but is it even legal to have a directional spare?

I'll keep looking around but think I may end up spending the best part of 100quid for a tyre - my alternative option is to buy 2 GSD 3's and put the better P - zero from the back as my spare.

Long story with my tyres but basically they've not been worn the way I wanted due to a puncture and use of the spare, swopping back to front etc.. so I ended up with just the one bald tyre after 9.5k last week, now nearly 12k (yep my little German adventure put a few miles on over the weekend) and think the front will last till 15k now.  Even I'm confused with all this now, but my tyre wear rates are a mess. I also don't wanna fork out for a whole set as I've got insurance renewal in a few weeks so wanna wait till I've some cash after that.

I'll keep looking.......

Hi

Perhaps it's a bit late in the day to mention this but hopefully someone might see who is on the look out for car tyres again. It's a new site I found called http://bestbuytyres.co.uk and I did a tyre quote comparison with a few others out there and they came up trumps with the lowest price.

Give it a go if you're looking for tyres
