i found with it being the 1st turbo car ive had and the first remap ive had that i felt somewhat defenceless when it came to taking the car back to resolve the problem, but im gonna just try advice and get 2nd lambda mapped out and replace maf either way.the 18t after 6wks seems to be a£££££ magnet!!!!dont hate me for saying this guys but sometimes i think should i have bought a ctr..................oh dear what have i said!!!!!

The issues that we have with W88DSY's car have been discovered since the first day of the remap but we genuinely thought we had resolved them otherwise we would not have left the customer and the car. We would rather return the car back to standard than have a prolonged issue to resolve.

The fault on the car is a strange one from what W88DSY has told me. When the car is started from cold it apparently goes into safe/limp mode very quickly ( I do not know how hard he is driving the car from cold ) resulting in drive without or very little boost. The car then has to be turned off and then back on and then the car behaves like it should do only now it has the boost surging problem under full load across the rev range as far as I can tell. The boost goes up to 18psi with is about 1.3 bar which is correct for the remap we have set it at but the car surges under load. Does this not sound like the boost surge problem that is reported on this forum?

Ultramap have mapped three 225 cupras up to approx 280 with no problems and great results which HQ mapping loads more. I have been assured that the map is perfect. To me I am looking at this problem from a faulty component point of view because I do have a lot of confidence in what we do. W88DSY might not see it that way but its not in my interest to lie to him. I want his car to work very well as much as he does. I am happy to go back up to cumbria to do some more investigating but it takes time to fit it in and organise as I have things planned all the time. I just wished that people realised that remaps are just a small (allbeit important) part of a cars running system and that there is a lot of places where things can go wrong and when they do, they shouldn't automatically blame the remaps. I hope that this thread has gone some way into highlighting that.

sorry but i actually revert back to my original statement, - cowboys! and the point is being some what missed here

any well known and customer focused tuner would get your car in straight away and get it on the rollers and plugged into the computer to see whats goin on

dont replace anything else on the car, demand for them to check it out

if you went to a shop and bought an electrical item and it was faulty, you would not expect the shop to turn around and tell you to buy another item to replace the faulty one would you, or indeed buy parts yourself to repair the faulty item? No, you would take the item back and want a refund or the item repaired

same as you, get it refunded and go to a decent tuner (I dont care if they are a forum sponsor, so what!) or get them to investigate the issue "properly"

also you should not be doing the logs or the initial leg work, its the tuning companies responsbility to find the issue!

Personally with the service you have got so far, I would get a full refund, the ECU reverted back to standard and go to Revo, Jabba, APR, P-Torque or Custom Code
so he goes back and gets a refund, and the next remap/chip/stage 1 tune doesn't go well(with who ever he chooses to use)where do they go from there?
blame the next tuner he uses?or maybe takes a look at his car?
calling them cowboys might make you feel better(and judging by your avatar a little horny),but its not going to help anyone

I think the fact that Ultramap have explained the situation and made it clear that they are willing, and keen, to do something about it tells us they are not cowboys. But unfortunately, some people are blinkered and refuse to accept that if you don't spend thousands on marketing, you're a cowboy.

There was a time when Revo, CC, AmD, Jabba etc were small companies and were trying to earn their reputation. I wonder how many people called them cowboys......

ok, great, and this is an open forum, thats your opinion and I still stick with mine as previously mentioned

You have to admit that your opinion appears to be in the minority here as Ultramap do appear to be willing to assist in resolving any problems that do occur. As previously said that is hardly the actions of so called cowboys. Remember that every name you've mentioned so far no doubt started off as a small company and then grew over time. I bet they may of had problems on a customer's car to begin with and even now, but they don't get called cowboys now do they?

Don't forget that a remap is a SOFTWARE upgrade, running on the existing STANDARD hardware.

The hardware in the car was put in place by the manufacturer to run STANDARD power/map/settings.

When you put a map on, you are basically asking the hardware to produce more than it was intended to do - this can highlight weak components and will also cause components to wear quicker. These problems will occur with ANY remap, and this hardware could have been faulty before the map was put on, but you just wouldn't have noticed.....

Open forum actually means privately owned forum we allow you to post on. ;)

Don't mind people speaking their mind, but if it harms this site, and legally were responsible for your outbursts. Then it gets nipped in the bud. I don't believe you have the experience to make a judgement call and a spurious statement about a company based on the experience of one person.

If it was your personal experience however then i believe you would be in a better position to comment on the business practices or customer service.

My opinion is the car is the problem, and it can be fixed if the customer is willing to help themselves a bit more. But the modifying game isn't just black and white, its not Tesco you can't just tune a car up above the manufacturers specifications and expect it to be rosy everytime all the time. You mod, you take the rough with the smooth.

tbh, From what I've read hear I beleive that ultramap are doing what they can here.
I feel that customers of these companies have to appreciate they may need to travel to get these problems fixed, if you cannot then maybe this should be used in use decision when choosing a mapping company!
As said before cowboys dont normally advertise everywhere or have multiple centres/dealers, you tend to find people like this (reputable companies) that try and help with problems that arise and that offer to have the car put down to there head office on the RR diag for free are trying the best to help!

Bit harsh shouting cowboys, just a young company trying hard!

BUT, I know, each to there own opinion!

of course.....

I may be barging in here but from what I understand W88DSY has mapped his car and now there is a problem.

Ultramap asked W88DSY to change a list of components that are known to be weak? what if they are fine? that's money down the drain that a quick look over could have saved - a quick diagnostic or drive by an experienced VAG tuner could narrow down the possible faults?

I take it that for every customer that has problems you ask them to change Coilpacks, DV, N75, MAF before you check the car properly?

Personally as a tuner I would be very concerned and not even let the customer's concerns even get to a public forum. If care and attention had been shown would W88DSY have needed to consult fellow forum members?

The fact that you are a mobile tuner further exaggerates this - If I were the customer I would expect you to be parked outside my house until the problem is solved.

just my 2p

I agree. parts due tend to wear quicker. When my map has been put on, it was great for a month but later had few issue.
So far ive replaced the MAF, N75, DV, Vacum/boost line, spark plugs and now the post lambda sensor. It seem fine now. :drive2:

These german cars are like this, one fault effect the overal running of the car. :snack:

After your map, your MAF, N75, DV, Vacum/boost line, spark plugs and post lambda sensor all failed? (!!!) or you mean over a period of time they failed independently of each other? if so how do you that its related to your map?

Well not all at once, the maf was abit low and i had exchanged, witha new one, and the n75 was week according to the vag graph. The dv began to leak, forge replaced it for me. ;). The boost line for the n75 ripped on the motorway afew days ago. upgraded them to new silicone hose.
The spark plugs were due, so thought change them to denso irdium. My lambda sensor was keep coming up witha fualt "resistance to high, signal too high". Replaced that.

All the above effect the performance. If you know what to look for its easy to fix it your self. IMO on a remapped car, i would recommend you change majour parts, as they will not last longer. :D

makes sense now. of course its an ever ending circle - uprated DV + Map + intake? might as well install exhaust and intercooler to make full use of the map.

Anyway we have strayed off the topic's point, W88DSY what happened with your car?

Seems that it getting a little heated on the issue!!
Just for the record Ultramap are in contact and from what i'm aware of are trying to help, although they claim to have invited me to the RR but this is not the case (cubix, please see your PM)
The problem is that the issue is still there and as yet hasn't been fixed and the point of me asking the question was to find out if i could do something without having to shell out for various components.

yes, go to the RR they claimed to invite you to and see what the problem is!
DO NOT buy any more parts untill the have diagnosed the fault witht the car/map!

Good advice. No sense in spending money on a problem that might be entirely software related. Let Ultramap see the car again and get it on the RR and see what they say. You have every right to ask for a refund if you're not happy, but do let them work with you on the problem first.
