w88dsy, i think most people if they are honest have had issues with their cars on here at some time or other, personally i have a love hate relationship with it. Fault finding and diagnosis is what i do for a living albeit in a different industry but it is relevant. I fit security systems and occasionally a customer will have a problem. If its a permanent fault then grate i will test, identify and replace. However most problems are intermittent and here is where it gets awkward. I will advise its either the detector, cable, cpu (brain) or the environment. I start with the easiest and most likely such as masking off a detector to eliminate environmental issues and leave it on soak test for a few days and proceed from there. when it gets down to replacing components, i replace with spares off the van and keep going till the fault is rectified and identified. The customer is only charged for the faulty part and my labour.
The point i'm making is that you should not be forced to buy all new parts to help identify the fault. But your dilema is this, If the tuner comes out and spends 8 hours swaping parts etc and testing and it turns out to be a faulty component and not his map he in my opinion is totally correct to charge you for his travelling and call outcharges and all associated labour charges and you should offer an appology as well.
So i would take all reasonable steps to check and establish that all your components are good (this is what we all have to do when we have problems) and then involve ultramap. And of course if it is found to be that the map is at fault they should refund not only the initial map purchase price but compensation as well imho. This is a double edged sword.
From what i've read my impression is that these guys are pretty good, just be open minded.

Just go down th the rollers and get them to check it, I take it since the offered its free?
IMHO It should be free for them to roller it and find the fault but not parts or labout in fitting them!

I need to clear up a genuine mistake here before things get even more confusing. I have already Pm'd W88DSY about this so he is in the loop. Ultramap work in two locations. Ultramap currently have another LC 1.8T with boost surge problems and limp mode up in Cumbria. I (cubix) did not remap W88DSY's car but thought he was the client I had in Cumbria as that client's name is similar to W88DSY. This is where the confusion with coming from Cumbria to Bedford with the RR in between makes sense to me now. My client from cumbria cannot make it to the RR. W88DSY is based in Beford and hopefully he can come up to the RR as I have offered this to him also now.

I have been assured by HQ that the remaps installed into both cars are flawless and should work perfectly. The remap parameters have been fully tested on many cars with no problems. HQ is as certain as they can be (without seeing the cars) that this is a case of the remaps highlighting other problems. We need to get the car/s there. My comments previous still stand though and can probably be applied to both cars. We are trying everything possible to resolve these issues and will continue to do so until efforts are exhausted or the problems found.

W88DSY, apologies for the confusion on this thread. Lets get your car into HQ.

good stuff, cheers guys. Will mail yourself and chun and get a date sorted.

Just a quick update on W88dsy's car. We had the car into HQ and the guys there took it for a test drive. The flat spot was there as expected. Checked the Spark plugs to find that they were well past their best. I drove into town to fetch some new ones and fittend them there and then. After that the car was tested again by both HQ technician and W88dsy, problem solved.

Many times we have had this kind of problem and many times we tell the customer to change the Spark plugs. Bear in Mind that W88dsy sought a proffesional opinion from a bosch techncian who actually said that the plugs were still useable!!!!

Let me leave this thread with one thought. If you have a remapped car and you drive it hard, change the plugs every 6-7k and forget what the long life servicing tells you to do. It will save you a lot of time and effort and extra expense problem solving.

Hi Folks, jst so you here it from the horses mouth, its true what ********* and cubix are saying, car now runs superb..... just goes to show the lack of knowledge at my local garage!!

Just a quick note to say also that due to a crappy company mondeo, the car is now for sale, any queries drop me a mail.
