Vag cable needed

Hi i need a vag diagnostic cable which is at least compatible with a GOLF GT TDI MK5 on a 55 reg.

i asume it will running vag 704.1 but not sure what cable to get. It has to be USB version as the laptop dosnt have any serial ports.

Any suggestion ppl eg the supplier and the rough price

If i buy the ross tech cable and download the vag.com 704, do i still have to pay 99$ to regsiter it or is that inlcuded with cable, as it states does no need activation
