Value of SEAT Main Stealer Service History over Full "Other" Service History

Guys,

Funny one this, but just how valuable is a SEAT service history over say a VAG service history?

The reason I am asking is because I know that my forthcoming service is going to cost around £100 more at a SEAT main stealer than a mate can do for me at an official VW Dealer complete with VAT receipt, book stamped etc using proper VW trained mechanics with genuine VW parts in a proper VW garage with VAG VAS units etc.

My last car (also a SEAT) had a full VW service history from this same garage and it made no difference to warranty claims or the value at trade in time. I am pretty sure that should the car be sold privately, it would make no difference either - or would it?

Your thoughts and opinions on this would be appreciated.

Value wise, probably zero.

Even an FSH has little impact if you part ex the car. When I part ex'd the Celica for the Cupra it was overdue the 40K service (and expensive one) and the dealer couldn't careless. By the time I took delivery it was even further past the service point.

Would someone even know if a garage was a SEAT dealer or not? Don't have a service book with stamps in at the moment to check but if it was just a dealer stamp without the brand how is someone going to know if it is SEAT or not?

My only concern would be you may lose any goodwill from SEAT. They have been know to contribute to repairs outside warranty as a goodwill gesture.

Yeah thats the bit that I thought about and the main reason I posted this.

On the up side, the VW service is gonna cost about £150 less than the SEAT service.

I recently got my first service done at a VW specialist called Midland VW in Cannock. Saved about £140 from what my local dealer wanted.

Had a chat with the owner while I waited for my car to be done, he deffo knew his stuff and even plugged in VAG-Com after and changed a few settings for me. Will deffo be returning back to MidlandVW for my next service. Doubt it'll make much difference when I come to sell the car as it'll have a full service anyway.

Yeah, I think it would be wise to just go with the VW service especially with the savings to hand. If I save £100-£150 per service, its gonna add up as time passes.

My Mum has a 14 month old car (not SEAT) and the battery has just gone on it and batteries only have a 1 year warranty, even though the car is covered for 3 years.

The battery was replaced by the AA at a cost of £60 but my Mum wrote to the manufacturer and they are considering a good will gesture. She has had to send proof of dealer service history as well as an invoice for the battery.

I suspect if she didn't have full dealer history they wouldn't even be considering this.

Yes but for the £150 he will save on only one service paying out for a £60 battery still leaves £90 in your pocket. If you keep the car for 5 years that is at least £750 and after 3 years the warranty is out anyhow.

Mines not seen a dealers workshop for anything other than warranty work, all 3 services have been done by a local independant.

I think as long as its dealer/garage stamped it makes no difference, keeping copy invoices together back it up come sales time.

Might have a change of heart if it was a lambo or something though

i personally would not buy a used seat without a full seat dealer history
beccause if the owner cut corners on the servicing what else has been neglected
or been done cheaply would look at the next car instead so £100 - £150 now means
loss at re sale is it worth it and my local seat garage is no dearer than anyone else 2 nd year service and brake fluid £176.20 bargain

I never have anything done apart from at the dealers from services, warranty work to tyres. Not only because of the log history, but because you know what will be done will be done right and if it isn't then it will be sorted asap! You know they use the proper parts, they will collect and deliver your car, valet it whilst it;s there etc. I had a corsa a couple of years back and had the engine management light on. Took it to a cheap place, £50 quid and it was off. 2 weeks later comes back on. Took it again, another £50 quid for something else, still having problems. In the end, took it to the dealers and whilst it was £200, it was fine ever since and the problem was nothing to do with what the previous two cheapo fixes were!!

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Pay cheap and you get cheap!

My experience of VAG Main dealers in birmingham is shyte, hence independant

Besides, a stamped book wont mean its been loved, just regular servicing.

Condition of paint, wheels & interior tell a good story of how its been cared for more so in my view.

just been quoted £185 (special offer apparently) for a 2nd year 20k service at GK at Derby. He said SEAT also recomend a brake fluid change every 2 years at an extra £48, this seem like a lot?

Sounds about right for a dealer brake fluid change.

Apparently, SEAT dealers have a list of options and RRP's which they download direct from SEAT UK.
