Hi Cupra belovers.

Wondering if there is around here some VCDS tech help.

Just got a VCDS 15.7 with cable to check my TDI AHF. The software installs fine on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and on Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Everything ok. Plug the cable on car and the cable green light stays on. The computer USB Ross Tech cable driver pops out and says the device is connected and ready to use. Turn the key. Double click the VCDS icon and nothing. The program won't start. It does nothing. Won't show on Task Manager either. Tried with compatibility settings from Windows XP to Vista and still won't start. Uninstall & Install twice on both laptops and zero results.
Tried with VCDS Lite from Ross-Tech website and the program start but says the cable isn't suitable for that version and won't do a autoscan.

Is it the software? Maybe corrupt? CD turned to be a cupholder? But installs fine...

Thanks in advance.

I used a VAGCOM cable last year to enable cruise control on my 1.9 AHF. It was a £10 cable from Amazon with VCDS Lite downloaded from Ross-Tech. Used an old laptop that had 32bit Windows 7 installed. I did have to change the COM port using one of the many youtube guides.

If the program won’t start, it sounds like that version of VCDS may not be compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. I’m not sure which version of the cable you’re using since they range in price from very old like I bought through to the latest HEX ones.

Use the Drivers supplied with the software i.e. Tell Device Manager to look in the C:\Rosstech folder for them. If you have done any of this with the laptop connected to the internet then it is likely that your cable is now useless.

Either that or your copy of VCDS is useless as version 15 is both Win7 and Win10 compatible. Check your AntiVirus or any similar software/firewall isn't preventing it from launching.

Thanks for the replies.

I did install VCDS and cable drivers with Internet OFF because I was instructed to do so.
But meanwhile I did uninstall and install with internet ON. Will this override the cable's drivers and fried the cable?
The cable is a dual-K specific for 15.7 VCDS.

I have to say I was suprised VCDS Lite haven't work with this cable. I believed Lite would work with any cable from Ebay, Amazon, etc.

I'll try to get to COM configuration and drivers assignment and see how it goes.

I'll let you know.

Thanks

Best regards

Have you tried running the software as Administrator? If you right click the icon you should have the option to 'Run as Administrator.'

Hi again.

Yesterday late night spend some time round this issue. I believe the software (15.7) may be corrupt.
Have tried VCDS Lite 17.1 (from Ross website) for HEX and DualK cable and the program started as normal. Tested the USB port within the program and with the cable plugged only to the laptop and it returned: "INTERFACE OK - USB PORT OK - Status: not plugged into car".

My question is: Can or shall I try to plug into car and run a Test Scan even the cable is for VCDS 15.7 and the actual program is VCDS Lite 17.1? Or will it damage the cable turning it to garbage?

I'm not aware that cables are specific to VCDS version but makes some sense otherwise everyone were able to use any cable with the most recent version of VCDS...

Antivirus is OFF as the Firewall, Internet is OFF and run in full administrator environment.

Thanks

Best regards

Do not use the latest VCDS Lite with that cable. It is a specific cable designed to work with a specific software version, you really are risking turning it to a paperweight. Keep it away from the net too

PM me and I might be able to find you a link to something suitable later tonight

Update: a well knowed SCR user :) helped me out on getting hand to a decent VCDS version which worked sweet until I tried to do the first plugged in check status. It returned everythink OK (Program, Drivers USB, connection type HEX) but the cable status was: Not Plugged Into Car.
Tried several times but the error remains. The cable green light stays on and doesn't blink anytime.
Maybe the cable as gone?

Best regards
