Any reason why since this matter has accured when my clutch is out it makes a nocking sound but when clutch in it goes away. This is related with my problem of loss of power juddering and management light

turbin did this happen to you? how much did it cost to fix

da, also got the yellow engine management light. Costs as much as two coilpacks to fix. My nr 1 said goodbye so I changed 1 and 3. Week after I changed 2 and 4.

check with ure local VW dealer for prices.

it will not burn all the fuel so the cat will get <HOT> drive with caution.

My engine light has been on a couple of times over the last 4 months. Seems to go off by itself though. I also had those chugging symptoms but not simoultaneously. The fault code comes up as "running rich" but the car is OK at the moment (well I am leaving it for 4 months whilst in the middle-east). Is this something far less sinister than coil packs?

Would really call a dodgy coil pack "sinister", its one of the easiest fixes on the 1.8T. chugging and running rich in conjunction with engine management light could also be an out of spec Lambda sensor.

With the engine running pull one coil pack out from the the cylinder head one at a time.

The ones that are working should make a "clicking" noise. The broken one will be silent.

Once one has gone it's a good idea to replace the others. Running one new coil pack and three old ones will put more strain on the older ones.

I personally would only use original VW coils. A few people have had problems with ones bought from gsf, euro car parts etc.

Just replaced all four of mine after my remap. I used a skoda dealer that sells them on ebay.

He gives a pretty good discount if you buy all four and free delivery.

how many coil packs are in my engine 4? or more

Four. One on top of each spark plug. They replace the old system whereby a single coil sent a signal to a distributor cap that was connected by HT leads to the spark plugs. I'm replacing a golf distributor tonight and let me tell you, its a whole lot bigger pain in the ar*e than swapping a coil pack on a Leon.
