what controls the ABS in a leon Cupra R

Guys, Currently stripping a Leon Cupra R and using the engine to transplant into another car. want ot know what controls the ABS on the Leon Cupra R, is it in the ECu or is there a seperate small Ecu just for ABS.

ABS is controlled by its own separate control unit, which is attached directly to the hydraulic unit containing a hydraulic pump and the valves that apply or release brake pressure in a controlled fashion.

The ABS function is completely self-contained. The wheel speed sensors are connected directly to the ABS control unit as are the brake pressure senders, the yaw rate, lateral acceleration and steering angle senders and the TCS/ESP on-off switch.

The brake pedal has no electrical connection to the ABS unit, the unit reacts to wheel speed and brake pressure inputs for ABS, EDL and TCS, and adds the ESP sensors (yaw, lateral acceleration, steering angle) for ESP control.

The wheel sensors are just sensors and have no independent processing power or attached processors. The accelerometers may have some preprocessing at the sensor head.

Ok thats what i assumed and why i asked the question, as i read something ages ago about a sperate contro unit.

Thats good news as the car its going into has a sperate ABS unit and did'nt want to use it as the ABS ont hat car is shite. Any idea where the control unit is for the ABS, is next to the normal ECu or somewhere else.

As muttley said mate - its bolted onto the hydraulic unit (where all the brake lines run to) on the back right hand side of the engine bay on a leon.

ABS units are usually supplied whole, electronic control unit attached to the hydraulic unit.

Transplanting an ABS unit would be challenging, I suspect. The unit will be programmed with the characteristics of the car it is fitted to, weight distribution, wheel spacings, and in the case of an LCR with ESP, the steering rate and expected inertial response. The unit will be matched to the sensors, too, and I wouldn't like to bet that the new body will necessarily have compatible sensors.

abs pump motor sits on the top / solenoid block in centre / ecu and solenoid control unit sits on the bottom and all sits as one unit in the engine with a hoooge loom coming out of it

all 3 parts come away easy and pretty adaptable and swappable all depending on model/type matching up spec abs/tcs etc. my mk2 has parts off a octavia and toledo built into mine
