Checked out the wiring of my thermostat as its been playing up only to be greeted with this absolute bodge, no wonder my car always reads the wrong temperature. Will be fixing it this weekend

Just looked at the receipt and it's a company called TD Performance Tuning. Just noticed on the receipt it says DPF + Tune. Getting more confused by the minute?!

This would explain why you haven't noticed any regens then I would imagine mate. Who's remapping it today??

Well mate, car went back on the rollers today. First run 180bhp, still looking good.

The guy checked the ecu and found the car was already remapped after all and had a dpf and cat delete, that would explain the no regens!

The guy put a performance map on and the car didn't like it one bit! Started jerking and smoking, just didn't like it! Tried a new MAF sensor, egr delete with blanking plate but no, car still spitting it's dummy out! Put the original map back on, perfect and another 180bhp run and smooth as silk power band!

He tried everything but no luck, as soon as he tried to take the car past 180bhp, something on the car started shutting down!

Need to do some checks on the car and see whats what and see why it's doing what it's doing, not going to be easy and not a happy chappy!

It was all done at AST Tuning, a good bunch of guys.

Boost cut? PPD170 are well known for it as a lot of lesser tuners (read 'remapping specialists' who could map your grannies mobility scooter as well as your lawnmower) miss one of the boost limiters and tend to detune (reduce boost) to avoid it

Would have thought they would have gotten to the bottom of it through logging

I was thinking boost cut, that's along the lines of what it looks like is happening. The guy who's doing the mapping has done two of my mates PD170 Leons and they are spot on. I was surprised he couldn't get to the bottom of it. So you thinking it's a simple as they are missing one of the boost limiters on the new remap? I was thinking n75 valve, possible boost leak etc

Without seeing what the car is doing, seeing the data or the map then i really can't say for sure. Could well be a fault with the car, but as it drives perfectly at lower power (and boost) then its a possibility. The boost cut i mention occurs at something like 27psi of boost from memory.

*edit* Seems 27psi is right, some more info here from a guy who knows the PPD170 better than most. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=401403

Really hope you manage to sort this out Rich,as Dan has said it seems like boost cut would it be worth ringing a few other tuners for there opinion.

I'm sure if they are genuine enthusiasts and not just out to get peoples money then they will try and give you there advice. :)

Cheers mate, really appreciate that, it's sounds just like what mines doing! The symptoms for mine are pretty simple, when he tries to do a power run, i'd say pretty low down in the rev range, the power is on and off and the car smokes, as he described, kangaroos, if he keeps going it will pass the kangaroo stage and hit 206 bhp. The part I don't get, if it's boost cut, why does it clear the kangaroo stage then get power?

Thanks mate, really want to find the issue. The only part i don't get is why the same map is on another two Leons, no boost cut issues at all?! Is it something on my car that's telling it to shut down?!

Going to ring around, see if i can get to the bottom of it!

Peak power made higher up the RPM range, turbo boost pressure is tailing off at higher rpm so you can still achieve peak power, but the lower rpm/midrange (peak torque) are affected.

Tell him to either look for this torque limiter (i dont know where it is in the file as ive never mapped a PPD170 so wouldn't know where to start), if he cant he will have to detune in the midrange and keep the boost (and boost spikes) under 27psi, or you could take it somewhere else.

Bear in mind he is probably making yours quite aggressive as you're already coming from a stage 1 mapped car making a fair amount of torque.

Best of luck with it Rich

Thanks Dan, you've been really helpful. I'm going to have a ring about and will go back and speak to him today, pass over the info you've given me and will ask him to look into it.

Back at the rolling road today but didn't run the car. Passed all the info to the guy that i had been given and thanks to all. He looked lost and said my car just cannot cope with more than 180bhp! Then said he could do me a Revo map that wouldn't give the same issue i had yesterday at a cost of £450?! Why did he not mention it yesterday?! I said no thanks!

Made a call and spoke with John at Big Fish Tuning, he said he had come across this issue before on the PD170 and nothing he wouldn't be able to resolve with one of his maps. He said he would happily give a couple of hours of his time and see what he can do, if for some reason he cannot resolve it due to another issue, he won't charge me a penny. He also said if the car does the same as yesterday, he will be able to tell me the cause.

Has anybody had any dealings with Big fish Tuning? If so, does he know his stuff?

Thanks in advance

Daniel M had his FR mapped there mate I'm sure he will reply to your question. From what I've seen they/he is a reputable tuner hopefully this will be the end of all the issues you've had upto now trying to get her mapped :)
