My copy of VCDS and cable arrived this morning, just been fiddling around with it, awesome bit of kit I have to say

Fitted a HID kit on Wednesday and just fitted LED sidelights. Need my FlyEye kit off Minty to so my rears next week.
I bought a non genuine vagcom cable and VCDS and it worth fine on mine, can do everything on it however just can't update. Was £40

It was a while ago and luckily was in the same town as me so got it quick.
Just had a look on eBay aswell and doesn't seem to be any cheaper one apart from the lite version. There used to be a lot at one point.
