Cheers mate, it's a Cupra CDL engine. Is the camshaft solenoid the one at the HPFP end of the engine?
Unfortunately I don't have VCDS, only a diagnostic app (Carista).

That's the one. Get yourself a VCDS clone, it'll pay for itself in times like this. Phone apps won't help here unless it can read the camshaft positioning data

Update: Like a sick pet that knows it's on the way to the vets, the car made a miraculous recovery this morning and is now running normally. The guys at the garage have done a load of data logging and found no faults, so it's a case of wait and see if it happens again
