What is the Honeycomb near air filter all about

Hi just before the Air Filter there is a load of plastic honeycomb affect? what is there for ? can it be got rid of for smoother intake or is it vital for some reason? thanks steve

yes it can be got rid of, will make the air flow greater etc etc. im sure there is a post about this somewhere on this???

i have removed it and may i say its a very worth while thing to do gives bit better sound and bit more power me thinks and a even bigger smile on my face

What can I remove from my car to make it sound better and go quicker ? Is there a long-term drawback ? Audi, VW and Seat Engineers have designed my car with all aspects considered, it already goes quick, but unrestricting a measured airflow ? They design them with consideration to environmental, performance and style. Will this increae the co2 emissions ? will my children suffer beacuse I am increasing pollution ? Do I care ? post some piccy's.

if u look on ya air box (standard) u have the air intake going in the bottom and the pipe coming out from the top left!

if u take the top left pipe of u will see there is a tight plastic honeycomb over the whole diameter of the induction pipe, hence greatly restricting ya the air flow to the engine.

this is where my induction kit is bolted straight to so what i wanted to know is the mesh vital in any way and the answer is a big NO

So i headed to my car and carefully cut the mesh away and smoothed any ruff edges away with my drimmel

now u will be able to see straight down the induction pipe and have de restricted the air flow and alow about 40% more uninterupted air flow to ya engine due to the removal of all this honeycomb plastic.

NOTE: there is 2 bits of honeycomb the main bulk which is moulded to the side of the main induction pipe (this is hwta i removed ,

A small circle which is what the air flow sensor plugs into (i left this alone)

Hope u undetrstand what i have explained and at the end of the day it hasent done my car any harm just good lol
