• Hi Guest There will be essential maintenance on the server on Monday 10th November from 5am meaning the website will be offline for a period of time. We will do everything to ensure the downtime is kept to a minimum.
End of the day, I don't care so much about my mpg in my LCR most of the time. Ok around town I expect it to be above 20(otherwise there's a problem) but when on an A road blast even, or motorway cruising/bombing I still get near to 30 mpg which is more than I'd expect for a car of this speed/power.

Anyone suffering a bit lower than the average mentioned here in this thread, should seek a good oil/filter service(use Quantum oil as a base) and run it on high octane fuel(i.e V-power only, like mine ;) ) then take it for a good run and see the improvements. I know I can still get a teeny bit more out of mine, because it's not been remapped yet :)

Sorry to drag a thread back from the dead. I average 32mpg on my commute, driving miss daisy, 20 miles at a time. And I mean driving miss daisy. It's mainly dual carriageway and a road, no town driving. It's an lc 180. Is that par for the course? It seems too low.. My old clio 172 on same journey averaged 40.

LCR:

20-25 MPG if you drive it like it was built for

35 MPG if you drive it like a granny...but there should be a law against driving LCRs like this!!

I average, as indicated on the trip computer, 31mpg. The other day I managed 36.8. I very rarely drop below 30 unless I'm hooning around. This is on a standard '03 210 with 67000 (with teardrop mirrors!). I do a fair amount mileage (270ish miles every other week), with average journeys of 20-25 miles.

Edit: On Tesco Momentum 99

LCR 225: 70 miles a day minimum on every type of road and usually low 30's, can be as much as 35 but that is granny driving!

This is std 95 ron but is better on tesco99

something's not right on my car then if i'm granny driving and getting 30mpg.

edit: and only a 180!

As a simple rule-of-thumb, if an LCR/LC 1.8T doesn't achieve mid-30s+ MPG when cruising at 80-ish with steady throttle - ie off-boost - then something is wrong re the engine's running efficiency.

Macho chest-beating/willy-waving aside, it's an 1800cc engine in a car with 25mph/1,000rpm gearing (in 6th) and an aero kit similar to eco-type cars such as BlueMotions, so, when off-boost, there's no reason why 35+mpg shouldn't be possible.

Alas, there seems to be myriad reasons for LCR/LC 1.8T engines not running efficiently: PCV leak; iffy MAF; worn pre-cat' LAMBDA; faulty temp sensor; duff thermostat; knackered N75; 'boost' leak(s); etc, etc... :stars:

In short, it's a right royal PITA [:@]

Hope your 'cure' is simple, cheap and swift to diagnose :)

I had a PCV leak, sorted it and improved Mpg.

I changed coolant temp sensor and that improved alot.

Just got thermostat left.

Does your car's temp gauge stay at 90, irrespective of ambient/outside temp, or does it rise and fall between 65 -> 85?

If the latter, you need a new 'stat; if not, don't bother :)

Well check this.

In the morning it will take its time to get to 90.When it gets close, it drops back down to around 70-80 and then after a while goes to 90 and then it will sit there fine.

On the motorway it goes down to like 60-70 and then when i come of motorway and drive local it goes back to 90.

What you think bud????? still change 'stat' or CTS sensor as i think mechanic put a used one in

Yep, classic symptoms - 'stat is dead.

IMHO, best to get a genuine VAG item - mine was £18 inc VAT, p+p and the seal, from Sere.

And you might as well order a CTS from Sere, too.

Cheers bud!!! I feel more confident thats it the stat.

When you say sere, its thats a website or something?
