What is wrong with my rear washer.

Dear knowledgable people.!

Probably not relivant, but i have a 2004 cupra TDI. recently, i can not get any washer fluid through my rear wiper jet.

I thought that it may be that the pipe has come loose, but i have pushed this tight on, but still nothing....

I have disconected the pipe from the jet, and pulled the stalk for the washer jet to fire and i can hear the whirl of the motor, but still no liquid is coming out.

I have made sure that the washer bottle is full, and the front jets are firing....

Any ideas?

Someone has suggested that it maybe blocked due to the cold weather.... But how do i flush out the pipe?

I have this problem again now, did have it a while back and whilst the car was in for a service asked for it to be looked at and they gave the impression it was a simple job and a fairly common thing so hopfully there is someone on here that can help. I was just about to post the same thing.

I think there is a join in the pipe inside the rear of the cabin area of the car, This can cause the rear carpet to become wet with screen wash.

Also there are other joins in the pipe in the engine bay, is the fluid level going down when the rear jet is operated? Is there a puddle under the car when the rear jet is operated?

The rear jet can become blocked or frozen and then when you operate the pump the pressure builds up and pops the pipe at one of the joins.

i guess i will have to see if i can trace the joins.....

I have checked the boot carpet as i know that it is prone to leaking. but it is dry.

I also presume that the motor for the rear washer jet is in the wiper arm at the rear?

My car is also very dirty, so guess i will also try cleaning the washer jet to see if dirt has clogged it up...

Nope, the washer pump motor is stuffed into the bottom of the washer fluid bottle. IIRC the pump spins one way to squirt the front screen and then spins the other way to squirt the rear screen. So there is only 1 pump motor.

I had this problem about 8 months ago in my old Ibiza. I had it in the local Seat garage and they told me that if you put in the wrong strength solution mix in it freezes and pops off.

Just to rub salt in the wound they told me that it used to be covered under warrenty but not any more and that it would cost £50 to put right!!!!!!

Hi I have had the same problems with my mothers polo.

The most common joint to pop off is the one at the rear n/s in the boot. Try pulling the carpet away on the left hand wall in the boot there is a pipe that should be pretty close to the rear light wiring.

Good Luck

Just thought i would let you know how i got on....

i finally found the problem! as u guys said, one of the connections had unclipped. However, The little rascal is right underneath the ECU and the Air box! so, just rememberto also check there..

you can't get to it via the wheel arch, so you will need to remove a whole load of things or find a mate with really small hands.

But thanks again for all the replies.

:) I've read about so many people getting hassle on here re the rear washer.I've stopped using mine. It's rubbish anyway.Mine popped off once, and the dealer fixed it for free.Since then,i just give it a wipe with a wet sponge now and again.

Mines gone too

[:@]:censored::doh: Mines gone too somewhere. Discovered this tonight. I can't get a look tonight so I will have to do it NEXT weekend (when I have daylight.)

Where does the pipe go from the front to the back exactly?

Likewise, I got mine fixed 2 weeks ago under warranty, it's stopped working already and I can't be arsed going to get it done again, I'll just do without.
Just means I'll not be able to see where I've been!! ;)

from what i can gather.........

bottom of washer bottle... (acess from n/f/s wheel arch) then the next join is where i found my leak, which is under the ECU/airbox in to the front pasenger section... and the other place where it has disconnected for me is in the boot, on the join ofthe pipe and rear winscreen washer jet...

Hope that helps.

Had to fix my rear washer after work today. The last time it went, the pipe came

off at the washer itself. A cable tie solved that one. This time it popped off underneath

the trim in the boot and wet the carpet as mentioned above. I had to remove the

plastic cover which houses the rear seat belt on the drivers side. There's three

screws and some clips holding it in place, one screw is hidden under some more

plastic trim lower down. It was a quick job to do, but when I get a chance I may

get back in there and possibly put some heat-shrink over the join to prevent it

from happening again. If I can I'll get some pics taken for future reference.

Same problem here. Worth checking to see if after using the rear washer you get a puddle of water under the nearside front tyre. It could mean that the connector under the air box has become disconnected. May not be the issue but worth a try.

Mine partly came loose where it joins inside the boot lid and fluid came out of the boot catch as well as a dribble from the rear jet. At the service last week the dealer fixed it for free, which was a bonus, however looks like half my trim clips are missing as a result. Yet another poorly design/manufactured feature of this car that really leaves me unimpressed. If the joint pops else where (sounds highly likely) think I will just leave it as it is.

Mine come away in 2 different places.

1. in the boot hatch where the pipe goes into the wiper motor. Removed the trim on the boot lid and added a small piece of cilicone vac pipe to the end and a hose clip over the nipple in the wiper motor.

2. in the engine bay under the airbox. Lucky I had a open cone filter so no airbox in the way. There is a join in the pipe and it had just poped out. Pushed it back togeather and all is fine now.

Same problem with mine but not diagnosed the exact point yet. When i use it it leaks out of a hole somwhere below the passenger footwell. Anybody know where mine is likely to be?

BLITZ2703

is the carpet wet? mine wasnt. but looked as though the whole was under the foot well.
but in fact, the join was under the airbox and ECU and dribbled down the engine bay till it dripped under the footwell making it look like there was a holethere.

yea looked like it was running out a hole. I thought there was a hole cos i put my finger in sumthing which i thoughwas a hole but was maybe where a srew was or something. So its an airbox out job is it oris it possible to get at it from underneath?
