morning all

I've seen a couple of Cupras on Piston Heads and Autotrader from dealers around the £3.5 - 4k mark, 2001 with about 60k on the clock, FSH. Does that sound about right? I ask because there are also similar cars out there asking around £5k.

Also is there any real difference between 2001 models and 02/03?

Thanks in advance.

Ye mine is a pre facelift 51 LC picked up for 3k 52k miles, I did this as facelifts were going for around 6k. My plan was to spend 1.5k on bumpers, paint, alloys and keep the rest for mods and stuff. Here I am all done with money in my pocket. Turns out I saved myself 1k or so

So is there quite a big jump between the two based on cosmetics?

I think so, personal taste I suppose, have a flick through autotrader and the difference is easy to see. Apart from looks and White speed dials I think the cars are the same mechanically. I wanted an LCR but for the sake of a quick map by Jabba it runs the same power roughly

I got my 2001 75k miles in June for 3k. I prefer the pre facelift as its more of a sleeper car and really surprises a few people! ;)

There seems to be quite a big jump to a facelift - 4k ish. I've seen plenty of sub 80k pre facelift for 2500 ish.

There's one on Piston Heads, 2001, 88k for £3975. Does that seem a bit over the odds? I can't post a link yet as I haven't done 15 threads

Sounds like I got a good deal, I wouldn't go to high a mileage as turbo's and cambelts come into the replacement bracket

The cam belt should be done at about 60k, i wouldn't buy one without the cam belt having being changed, or money taken off, mines done 108000 now and the turbo is still going strong with a Stage 1 re-map. As long as its got the full service history i wouldn't worry about the mileage.

I had a funny feeling I get a reply like that lol, i understand that your own personal car is fine however in general cars of a higher mileage are prone to faults etc. I'm sure high mileage cars built by vag are ok it's just that if a turbo goes then so does the money in the piggy bank. Hopefully mine will last well over 100,000 aswell touch wood.

What's your definition of high mileage?

How much do they sting you for a new cam belt?

+1 on that.

Mines an X plate, I bought it for £1500, with cambelt already done, a year ago with 136,000 miles on it and its just ticked over to 147,000 in the past week, my repair bill, excluding servicing, stands me at £10.04 for a couple of brake light bulbs and a thermostat, it even passed its MOT first time.

Yes, trust me I've looked through the summer and keeping an eye on the game again for my sister and that car is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced.

Like I said mines a 2001, had 75k, was chipped already and had a zorst and I paid 3k. Picked it up off ebay! [B)]

01 reg 20vt cupra 76k fsh £3484 12 months mot 12 months warranty 6 months tax

Better but still 1k overpriced IMHO, just do a national search on Autotrader for 4k (or 3k) and under with sub 80k miles - quite a few! Be prepared to travel IMHO, I have for all my cars over the last few years, went to Macc from Guildford for my old Z4! Got my Cupra in Cambridge...

And IMHO theres a lot of cars on Pistonheads with their owners not aware of what cars really go for, just put them up for what they want for them....

Thats not too bad based on the mileage. You'd probably get it down to 3500 which would be just about ok, be a good buy at 3000-3250 though.....

Is it private or a trader?
