i've had mine done at wallace performance in aberdeen. they were ok i suppose. it is 4 wheel laser alignment and costs around £40 if you need adjustments and £30 if you dont.

used them and it didnt work for me, tyres shredded after 10000 miles. think they did track only and that is not the problem!!!!

as mgrays says you need to be very specific what you ask for and need a garage that does race setups i.e camber etc etc

the only adjustment any garage in the world can adjust on most cars is toe angle! and castor camber ect can be minamally adjusted using play in bolts ect!

update....

had a go i my own garage...

camber just over 1 degree on the left and 1/2 on the right.
caster 5 degrees on the left and 4 degrees o the right

I have now adjusted these so they are the same both sides by using a combination of the strut top mount, lower wishbone outer three bolts and the subframe to tweak the caster angle.

Just the toe angle to check and adjust...................................

Is your garage floor perfectly level ? It would have to be - and perfectly so, if you're measuring down to parts of a degree.

A lot of garages slope down towards the door (so water doesn't collect) - in which case your castor readings would be way out.

As i posted before, tere IS an official VAG method to adjust the camber suing the subframe and a special adjuster bar to control the adjustment

You'll see it in the workshop manuals. . .

Take it to VAG if you want it checked that way, i doubt typical alignment places have the details/tool to do it.

muddyboots

garage floor not evel I agree. equiped with a laser level and some old carpet tiles though you can create 4 perfectly level pads to put the car on.....

works a treat, car now drvies straight.........................................................

Cunning :)

got the car with 40k km and the 17" 205/40 SP9000 were as bold as melons inside. I took the car to a friend who adjusted the alignment and now after 25k the new SportMAX are fine. the steering does not feel as "heavy" but at least i'll change the oil more often than i would tires with teh factory alignment.

I can ask what he did if you want to check out your alignment.

oh, i failed to mention that the old tires were used wisely skid-marking in first, second and third gear....for meters and meters....i love torque.

I spoke to Seat UK yesterday regarding the problems I had with my tyres being threadbare, and after they had looked at the results of the 4 wheel alignment and everything was "in spec" according to them, they said there was nothing they were willing to.

The guy I was speaking to told me he had not heard of anybody else who had suffered with this problem. Now he is either lying his ass off or people are just accepting it and not kicking up a fuss, which is what I think is happening. Why not make a fuss and try and make things better for ourselves rather than laying down and living with problems that we shouldn't have to. The more people that complain the more likely we will get something done.

I'd say anybody who is suffering from uneven tyre wear should get onto Seat UK and give them an ear bashing, if it becomes a major complaint surely they won't be able to ignore it.

I'm not going to give up until I get something sorted with my car becuase I think it is completely out of order to have a factory setup that causes uneven tyre wear. I notice nobody tells you these things when you go in to buy the car........strange that.

dude, seat sets the car like this on purpose. they close the geometry of the front so you get a better handing car. the low end is the inside tyre-wear. you need to get to a some other service and have this fixed because seat will say its a factory setting and you should keep it.....and you'll keep loosing inside thread.

I can understand having it set up to improve handling, but not in such a way that it destroys the inside track of the tyres every 8k, there are much better handling cars out there that I'm pretty sure don't suffer in the same way.

crafoo

what are your alignment figures, can you post? I have had garages say they are in spec but are not....

This is interesting!

I'm having the exact same problem with my front tyres at the moment. Its nearly done 10k

I've been fobbed off with the same reasons, i.e. tracking is out on the front, tyres are low compound so wear quickly (i've read reviews that the Pzero's are awful for lifespan, thats probably why SEAT put them on), the huge torque the sports diesels have etc..etc..

I'm at the stage now where i can't be arsed ringing them up and getting the same responses so i'm just looking out for some more duarable tyres so they last longer...

For me it's not the lifespan of the tyre as such (although it is a bit off the fact they were shot after 8k) it's the fact that they have worn badly on the inside 1-1.5 inches of the tyres and the rest of the tyre is fine, if it had worn evenly i'm pretty sure they would still be legal and on my car as we speak.
