Buy all the bits and do it yourself as james_walker suggested....if you take it to a dealer you'll only get the "work experience kid" doing it as the good technicians do the harder jobs....but you'll still be charged the earth!

Failing that theres a Vag specialist in Aylesbury, who are good, but I got no idea where you live chap!

i did fuel, pollen, oil filter, plugs, oil change, water etc for 60quid for parts, took me 1.5 hours including oil change, easy peasy and 200 quid saved.

you can also try the dealer to get service items from, they aren't as much as you would expect, and its all genuine and on the shelf in stock

seat or vw are cheapest IMO. maybe you will save a few quid on a filter but for 50 p id go for a genuine one. if you are TRADE you get the parts at a good discount in the trade club. the genuine oil is around £20 5 litres quantum synta **** fully syn. ok maybe not the absolute best quality on the market but its what you would get if you took it to seat for a service and it sure isnt crap cheap oil. for that money can afford to change it every few k miles.

as mentioned they arnt as dear as you may think from dealer, say your trade from a garage make up a name as many people i heard have done and save yourself a few quid!

last time i brought some parts for mine from VW they were around..

Oil £18
Oil filter £ 3
Air filter £10 (maybe upgrade to a high flow panel filter)?
petrol filter £6
pollen filter £12
spark plugs depends if you want platinum which are NGK and around £25 a set sometimes vw maybe charge more.

you can find cheaper at GSF which are OE quality, eg MANN you will find most place like this produce them for VW before they get there stamp on them

There not bad prices.
I think I payed about £50 for my last set of spark plugs from Eurocarparts.

AmD do my serviceing now so I can keep the service book stamped and up to date

Are there any noticeable benefits of platinum over standard? And can new spark plugs contribute to maintaining performance or do they simply start the engine?

As you can tell I'm quite a noob at mechanics lol
Thanks

When you say start the engine, you don't mean literally start it then they stop working til next time you have to start it, do you?

Fancy plugs can make a difference but a real biggy is fitting the wrong plugs, then you won't get anywhere very quickly lol

I had Bosch super 4's in my old car and they did'nt make much difference.

I use the platinum one's now in my LCR
