doubt you will notice any huge gains mate. higher ron fuel wont give you any more power.

Quite correct but lower RON fuel (ie 95) will give you significantly less power. All 1.8Ts in the Leon are mapped to run on 98RON fuel. Using anything less will result in a loss of performance and fuel economy.
 
I ran an Octavia vRS for a little while earlier this year, AUQ as far as I know. It wasn't running right but higher octane fuel did seem to make a bit of a difference, even if it was just Sainsburys stuff. Seemed a little bit more willing and responsive, started better in the cold weather too.
 
my engine parameters seems to re-adjust every 10mins or so. I notice this very well when I do trackdays. 10-15mins into racing the engine picks up some extra grunt. I like it !
