Which intake for Cupra?

PMSL! I have decided that you are a total cheap skate mate

May I ask why you are doing your own one? Fair play if you do a good job, but you are gonna need to be able to bend "hard" pipe, create a perfect fitment for the MAF and figure out how to support the unit from the filter end. Oh, and meaure out how to get it to fit it properly to the turbo side ;)

its a secret... and two words for you... Credit... Crunch LMFAO

comeon now , spent 20 odd k on the car lol and spend 800 a month on petrol !!! so i need to scrape the barrel

Lol. Fair play dude.

Being serious though, I dont think that making an intake is going to be that straight forward.

You have several things to consider, and the main one, in my opinion, is the 90 degree bend down to the turbo as there is limited room in there to do anything.

Having said that, if you got some proper heat resistant material, and could mould in an elbow, the pipe that goes across the rear of the engine toward the bulkhead would be straightforward enough. If the pipe diameter is correct, all you will need is a jubilee clip to fix the tube on to the turbo. The cutting you will need to make for the MAF will need to be fairly precise and you will need to make sure it is secure when in the tubing.

Then you will need another elbow to bring forward to the cone, and you will need to figure out how you want to mount it. I would advise against the hoop on the passenger side of the engine as a couple of these have snapped on the Dbilas units that I know of, probably due to engine movement.

Some sort of shielding for the cone (to separate it from the engine heat) would be a worthwhile consideration also.

What type of cone would you opt for? Something like a K&N 57i?

If you are good with your hands, this might be quite cool.

However also believe that if you buy cheap, you buy twice. Why put a 2p intake on a £20k car?!

 Whats this??

The bolt used to fix the intake to the engine shears off. The intake is fixed to the turbo on one side and the slam panel on the other. The mount in between is the engine, and it moves, as far as to snap the bolt. When this happens, the intake pipe sags, but it is clear of any other engine component and so is not really a problem. Not ideal though.

Would torque arm insert / stiff mounts make this less likely?

Possibly, if they reduce engine movement mate.

Edit - See the jubille hose round the intake pipe about 1 foot back from the slam panel beside the battery cover - thats probably a better solution than the bolt, but you would need rubber or something on it to stop the clip from scratching the intake pipe.

Cool thanks :)

Well, I can vouch for the dogbone inserts, they do improve engine movement and I've noticed an improvement in low speed traction and gearchanges are snappier...

Where would the filter live in that setup out of interest? Beside the maf or in the Carbonio style intake box?

live in the carbon housing just before the maf.. the circle box at back of engine
