Hi everyone. Hope you are well. I've just bought a stock Mk1 Seat Leon FR PD150. Would like to fit an oil catch can but unsure which one is good to buy and which size hose. I've read somewhere that I need a certain size hose due to the pressures ?

thank you

Hi Kev, you will need 19mm internal diameter oil resistant hose. As for catch cans then it’s up to you and your budget mate. I fitted one years ago and still fine. I initially had the outlet routed down by the wheel arch to atmosphere but garage mechanic advised me to sort it properly!!!
Just empty any residue once a month (not that much only about 3-5mm of gunk & water)

First of all, why do you want it?
If I look to it, there is no reason for it. Only extra cost and work.
Only reason some people do it. Is for the looks and that the waste is not going to the intake. Because the think it delivers dirt on the valve and this causes extra issues later on.

From that part that only happens when the engine is not going higher as 2500rpm.
And mainly also because of the internal egr function.
With hot engine going through full time range. Will keep the intake valve clean.

this is why i was always 50/50 as i don't want to mess with the design and i do and have taken the egr off to clean and a fully working intercooler can clear it all .. or even if it will cause more issues than its worth

With internal egr, I do not mean the external egr.
Under small load low rim the intake valve can open before the exhaust stroke is done.
This means small part of the exhaust gasses can come as well in the intake.
The reason I call it internal egr. This is the mean reason the valves are getting dirty in my onion.
And when you floor it. The valve will be hotter then average together with higher air flow pass the intake valve. This will keep the valve longer clean.

Knowing out of experience. Peugeot 1.6thp engine did valve cleaning for customers. We did it up to 5 customers sometimes per day.
Just cleaning the valve, new oil and often new chain.
But the one that had the run the engine hotter and run till max rim had almost clean valves. And no oil catch can.

The reason that every engine is pushed to max rpm just to keep it clear

One of those things thats likely negligible. They fill up with condensation and oil vapor and people think theyve caught half a litre of oil that would have been re-circulated. Plus its adding monthly maintenance having to check/empty it on a daily driver, If it fills up youll be putting oil and water where it shouldnt be. Nice for a weekend toy though.
