Don't bother you'll just end up with more heat soak into the filter. Unless you want to make alot of tubing for a minimal gain. Save your money and buy yourself a 1.6 or a tdi or a gti when you can afford one. Or do an engine swap. Don't do it just for the noise.
change the airbox for a mushroom filter it doesnt soak up heat as much as the other filters. You will also need a small filter for the breather pipe that goes into to airbox. If it is just for noise change the back box....
Wont really give you anything much in the way of gains (if at all) but it might give you a slight increase in noise.
I fitted a K&N of a Mk3 Polo on my old 1.4, sat it behind the headlight unit and fed some tubing up from down under/near the splitter to keep it as cool as and help it breath easier..sounded a bit raspier but dont think it ever released any wild ponies.
I hear that people are saying save your money and but a gti or tdi but induction kits are less that £100 and lets be honest you can do that on a night out.
If you get one stick a air feed pipe in and be done....it looks great in the bay and sounds rassspy on acceleration.
Ive always got on okay with mine and at the end of the day there a cheap bolt on mod.
Dont expect lots of gain on a 1.4 but there kind off fun to set up. Have a look for a second hand one maybe.
