I have had a play with the 996 calipers, and re coloured them red from black. Pretty happy with the results. The decals are on the way and will lacquer over them. I tried the stencils but what a disaster, the sooooo dont work in my opinion.

Here are a few pics

I used VHT paint and lacquer to get the finish, more lacquer going on once the decals are on.

I replaced the pistons and seals, and bought the repair kit from Brembo to get the new pins, split pins and pad retaining clips.

The carriers are off being powdercoated as they were tatty, and need to sort out some pads, think Im going for eiher Brembo pads of DS2500s

the discs are ok, 312mm and 28mm, shouod be ok. My garage are custom making me some hoses as I dont know what else to do really. Got the decals from highgatehouse.co.uk who specialise in them. I tried the stensil ones i.e. sticking them on, painting over them then removin the stensil and it was a disaster, so using proper Porsche decals from them

I got the paint and the lacquer from a local paint place. Exact match to the Porsche red and some good quality VHT lacquer. All in cost £20 for 2 colour aerosols and 2 lacquers. Got the decals for £10

Need to sort brake lines out and pads.

Anybody know were I can get the brake lines from?

Also, can anyone verify whether my 312mm disks that rae around 28mm wide will be ok in the 996 rear calipers?

Most of the manufacturers should know what fittings are on what calipers especially porsche jobs.. Drop Goodridge a line and they'll probably be able to make something??

If memory serves me correctly silver calipers (996 on) are off of Carrera 4 or S variants Red for turbo and yellow are the ceramic option.. Black ones are the standard fit to Boxster etc..

Most are the same mono bloc caliper just painted differently.. Turbo's use big pistons..

Hope that's of help? Not 100% sure if i'm right as it's been a while since i've dealt with Porsche (6 years ago)

Spoke to Goodridge and they are looking onto it. Had to take a pic of the bolt for the brake line on the back of the caliper and measure it, but they need to know how long to make the line and I have no idea how long it could be. Cant mock up as its my everyday car and I cant just pop the brakes on and off hehe

They are off a Porsche 996, I have kept them original.

I tried to get some SEAT brembos but no joy

Does anybody know how I can tell if the pistons are ok in brake calipers?

With pistons you want the sealing areas to be corrosion and pit free to allow smooth movement and the seals to seal on a smooth flat surface. The sealing area will be around the outside edges.
Also that the seals are not perished and gouge free.
If possible (when you get your brake lines hooked up) pressure up these calipers when off the car and just check for no fluid leaks and smooth movement of the pistons

as for the brake lines, get your self to your nearest Pirtek. They specialise in that sort of thing, they may even have an adapter on teh shelf, if not, they can simply make you a new hose.

Cheers mate. Goodridge made me some custom lines for £45 including vat and delivery, very pleased with that price

yeah im over the moon with the whole setup to be honest. My garage said it couldnt be done, they are a garage that speacialise in VAG tuning too (confusing!!!) so I just did it myself today.
