 This I ask my self 10minutes ago. The same engine with the 180 Hp in Golfs are 6speed,Gti and Tdi, the Fabias also. I thing the Cupra Tdi also with 6speed.
Why let us outside of the 6speed ? Ibiza Cupra

Also Golf 4motion. :) Why not Ibiza Cypra 4x4 ?

I will wait to listen your thoughts .

Thomas

Mk4 VW GTi with 150hp has a 5 speed box

Maybe its to do with the power  150hp isn't enough to need 6 gears!

The plus side to having a 5 speed box is that you can stay in gear longer. This was always the + & - points to the Subaru Impreza (6 Speed) and The Evolution 7 (5 Speed).

To be honest i dont have a clue why the cupra is 5 speed:shrug:

Never. I'm still driving a VW Golf. But soon to get a Cupra. I cant wait to wipe the smile off of there faces!:bleh:

If the petrol cupra had 6 speed gear box when what would be the point of the leon? The ibiza then would be a mini leon (could even look like a mini mk2 leon be the end of september). So you would be only pushed into buying a leon for what? More extras and more boot space?

This is like saying why don't it come with a warning light for the coolant level..... Thats a bit more important!!!! or a waring light for the windscreen washers, leather seats..... all the more reason to buy a leon.

I f i understand you are a Leon person ?

I dont think they deemed the extra weight and costs that come with it cost effective or necessary as the ibiza cupra is a cheapish and light hothatch.

If we have someone really clever here they might be able to tell us whether a 6 gear ibiza would get to its top speed quicker, or slower than a 5 gear ibiza.

Personally without making any equations I think the 5 gear ibiza would be faster than a 6 gear one, if they were both still ultimately geared to the ibiza cupras current top speed.

You see, when I drive in the 60Mph limited road, my revs are almost 2900 at 65Mph the revs are 3000
and from 70Mph and up my turbo is in boost all the time. That’s mean more fuel and less engine life . . .

that is true, I think if they did give it 6th gears the 6th one would be to help conserve fuel.

The next Ibiza cupra probably will get 6 gears, but then the car will be heavier anyway to begin with and the engine will be more powerful. We'll see.

Maybe someone like Mork can shed some light on the whole 5 gear vs 6 issues.

no need to have the six speed box my cars running a bigger turbo and i asked the garage if its worth changing to a six speed and unless you want to be going faster than 170+ mph then there is no point spend the money on a limited slip diff or some better brakes!

4x4 due to added cost, weight and because it would outperform GTI's and leon cupras etc
