If you make the outside of your car look like something it is not, dont you have to inform your insurance company as it may have more of an attraction to being stolen?

Just a thought

Personally I would prefer to be stealth and take off all my badges, have been thinking about it. Anyway each to their own, I can understand having the kit but the badges i'm not so sure about. At least they have not gone for a chavvy look!

Have just put FR bumpers on my Reference Sport.. just prefer the look as mentioned above.

Wouldn't dream of sticking an FR / Cupra badge on though.. kinda pointless.

But each to his / her own..

I've got nothing against people putting stuff on their car if they want to improve its looks, but don't agree with rebadging.

If you have an FR what's wrong with saying just that, why say you have a Cupra.

To be honest if you rebadge a car to say it is something it isn't, you should really tell your insurance and it might end up costing more to ensure than the actual car would...

I saw a black Leon a while back, with spoiler bodykit etc and no badge, to be honest it looked awful. Nothing wrong with the boduykit etc but the missing badge just meant it looked wrong.

Modding cars is all down to the personal preference, I fail to see how it hurts anyone! That's just my opinion anyway, everyone mod cars in their own way, some people like to replicate other cars, because they look nice. Maybe he didnt want to leave it badgeless because he thought the back of his car looked naked, whatever the reason, who actually cares? what difference does it make... what worries me is all the time and effort you spent investigating this tbh...

I never spent hardly any time or effort. I happened to notice and mention a really smart car to my local dealer who was intrigued as he was sure he'd sold the car as an FR and only wondered if they'd went a stage further than getting the K1 kit. I never gave it another thought until I saw the car again (in my own local area) so i looked in the window only to confirm what he had figured. And he was right. I thought he's be wrong but he was right. End of story. Very little time & effort spent & I coundn't care really just wondered what you guys thought of the whole concept.

Didn't mean to upset the applecart & apologies if that's the effect it's had on a couple of guys. Most seem to know what I meant & that's good enough for me.

I was at the dealer for other more obvious reasons & it just came up in conversation. Don't think i''ll be stalking you & your CUPRA next for gods sakes!

I have a black front grille and black mirrors on my FR but its not to make it look like anything else I just think it looked odd with crome grille and silver mirrors.... if i had a silver cupra with black grille and black mirrors i would change them to the FR ones...

I think i mentioned it before but in my works car park there is a VW Passatt Type R!!!!!! well at least thats what the badge on the back says so it must be true!

Fair play! But I was just saying, people have done it, will always do it until the end of time, people will always have their excuses, but its because they like the looks, i can't imagine its for any other reason! Speaking of which i gotta go to halfords to get my Porsche Turbo badge for the back of my car...

My thoughts exactly - fair enough put nice kits on it etc, but at the end of the day, don't make out that it's something it ain't! If you want a cupra, buy a cupra!

I totally understand people wanting to de-badge but the opposite mainly goes right over my head. It's just the honest truth for me but if everyone was the same then the world would be a very boring place full of FordFocus drivers etc! :)

This question was a total and utter cat amongst the pigeons type thing unmeant so I apologise to all offended! Each to their own really. I should have realised that people here did similar stuff & was naive to assume otherwise. For all I know the person is a well respected member here so fair play to them with their FR/Cupra hybrid tribute or whatever they have the right to see it as. :coolthumb

Another view point is that badging cars like this actual devalues the image of the car trying to be imitated.

If for example the Cupra was quite an exclusive car (which it is to a certain extent) and everyone went around putting a Cupra badge on whatever other Leon then people would perceive the Cupra as being quite common and it loses that exclusivity.

The Escort RS Turbo and Sierra Cosworth suffered from this in later years, both could only be bought from selected RS dealers but loads of people bought the badges and bodykit to put on any old Escort, for a while RS and certaintly the XR brand became a bit chavy.

Alot of people will find there won't be a huge cost difference in insurance once you have added all the mods etc on. It's bit like people who drop a 20vt into a 1.4 because it'l be cheaper to insure

Correct. I started to mod my 20VT FR to make it an LCR look-a-like. I then decided that by the time I'd bought & fitted all the necessary parts, it would actually be cheaper to buy the real thing. So I did. When I rang to amend my insurance details, I was actually refunded about £60 - going from a very slightly modded FR to a stock LCR.

putting the aero kit etc on an fr is a good thing in my book as the standard cars looks aint all that
but you do cross the line by putting cupra and k1 badges on it which i definatelt is not and makes it look fake would be better de badging it

I totally agree with you. Though the standard FR is nicely understated as well for a hot hatch. It was the back I never used to like but it's grown on me.

Nothing wrong with putting the K1 kit on the motor if it makes it looks the nuts(which it does) then i can see why he has done it.

I can also see why people would like a real sleeper car e.g. a cupra knocking out 250+ bhp but just looks like an ordinary reference....

Personally I would like my car to look nice im sure that is what most people think on scn too

There's nothing wrong with it but it's supposed to be an exclusive kit available to Cupra owners/buyers is it not? Yes it does look the dogs bollocks but for me it seemed like, I don't know.. misplaced!

As for most people thinking it's ok to kid on your car is something it's not. (If that's what you mean) Going by these responses, there seems to be at least 50% think putting a different cars badge on your car is a stage too far. And I suppose it's this aspect that bemused me the most.

but as I say. TO EACH THEIR OWN!!!

Would not do it myself but if it makes someone happier then that is great! I agree with some of the guys on this thread, keep it looking as standard as poss as to avoid unwanted attention.

When I was about to debadge my car the only thing stopping me was thinking people might think i'd removed the badges only to hide the fact it was an FR and not a cupra.

But i think it looks nicer without the badges so took them off anyway.

I'd never big up my car with a badge that it wasn't.
