Putting a fake 'upgrade' badge on the back to me stinks of the syndrome of trying too hard.

It's no better than turning round to your partner in bed at night and saying "excuse me love, could you wait whilst I put a nob extension on".

Tarting up the bodykit I don't really take any issue with (OEM), but lately, and I guess on the back of going to a few more Audi shows I have seen RS TDI's, A2 'S', A3 1.9TDi S3's, and all sorts. Most of the people who drive them have sunglasses the size of double glazed patio doors, tangoman skin tone, and brittle hair which doesn't move if they sneeze.

I want to go up and say something along the lines of 'Nice S car, so is that the 4.2V8', but then I can't be ar$ed wasting my valuable breath talking irrelevance to shallow lowlife pools of pi$$.

Blimey:blink:

I agree :) Nothing wrong with having a nice looking car. :)

you dont have to badge a car up to make it look nice , attend a few car meets and subtle mods make a car standout a million miles from a standard car , personaly i dont care about badges , i bought the Cupra for the tunability.

i used to own a mk1 cupra and didnt try and make it like a cupra r or something it wasnt.

I know it sounds a bit strong, (was meant slightly more lighted hearted than it reads) but if people are prepared to tell fibs using a badge on the back of their car, are they going to do anything other talk themselves up in every other situation (the sort of person who always knows something bigger / better / faster / stronger than you could possibly ever know - c'mon, you know the sort!)

I think actually on further reflection it's another indicator of broken society where people will pretend to be something they're not, or own something they don't due to deep routed insecurities or a desperate need for greater social acceptance from others. A shame. I'd rather embrace people with a 1.0L and a sense of reality.

I did think that badging a car to be a better model was a bit daft, but you seemed ready to kill!;)

I do agree that it is respective of modern society. For some its about being better than the next man, rather than just being the best man you can be.

I was passed on the M6 yesterday by an RS4.

Must have been a prototype or something as it had standard A4 wheels and bodyshell (in a dark, nonmetallic blue - limited edition colour, presumably), no flared arches, bodykit or anything. Also, it sounded like a diesel but maybe it had some kind of special sports exhaust system.

Definitely an RS4, though. It had some badges.

Mind you, who am I to talk, i've got a fake K1. ;)

i find this funny also....I like downgrading my rides. My brother has a E46 325 BMW that we supercharged and were getting ready to put either 316i or 318i badges on the rear. I on the other hand want to peel the CUPRA badge off the back and put the standard Leon badge

Few things have been highlighted in this post.

Of the entire car, the badge must make up about 0.1% of what you see.

The way a car looks will not alter it's performance, but people are all different and if a car is an extension of themselves then let them do what they like. If they take more care and pride of their car I reckon they're less likely to wrap it round a tree or drive like a loon.

Then again if anything were to happen it's not like any insurance company would replace bodykits that were not standard....

what makes me laugh on this is to buy the fr then fit k1 kit you actually end up paying more than you so beware always check with insurancewould to buy a k1,plus as soon as you modify to look like a k1 your insurance goes up too,as it makes your car more attractive to thieves......so in longrun you might as well have bought a k1 or a cupra as you,d only be a few pounds less........unless you neglect to tell the insurance companies what type of bodykit you have fitted, but beware insurance companies can decline to pay out saying you had,nt informed them the car was a lookalike....short story here-guy has golf 1.3,fitted a gti bodykit and debadged,he has accident but not his fault.insurance comes to inspect damage for claim, see car and bodykit and ask,s if car is gti guy says no 1.3cl. guy told his claim is invalid as insurance company not informed of all changes-ie not told insurance a replica of gti-guy looses claim and possible legal action by police as insurance cancelled......this is a true story not 100% accurate as a shortened version ...

so beware always check with insurance, even as little as chrome wheelnuts is classed as a modification, debadging too...

its all about personal taste i think FR/cupra front bumper is a must tho my old man prefers the standard "smiley one" and the spoiler actually helps or i hope it does...my friend keeps telling me to put the FR or cupra badge at the back but if its not the car then why should i put it on - sleeper cars are the best :)

I've got a 1.6 stylance, i've put the fr front and rear bumpers on, got the red sports interior for very cheap off ebay. I've added them just to meke it look a bit sharper. I haven't added any stupid badges as its not an fr. :D

I don't see the problem with making it look better but don't try kid yourself and everybody else by pretending its something its not.;)

I agree. It's just a fake !

I used to drive a Leon 2.0 TFSi Sport and I loved it...no need to pretend it was anything it wasn't, there is no excuse for this, it's like wearing a fake Rolex and trying to kidd people it's real.

It's Walter Mitty pretending to be a big shot...

It is a shame when people badge up their cars, if a 1.4 Ibiza sportrider has an FR or Cupra badge on it and gets done at the lights by a 1.6 Focus, the focus driver will be bragging and it will make real FR's and Cupra's look slow.

Then again the Focus driver may get cocky in front of his/her mates and do it again with a real FR or Cupra and look silly

I agree with the majority here......fair enough doing the car up, EG: FR or Cupra bumpers on a sport/referance or such like, but then putting a FR or Cupra badge on the back is a bit silly and pointless IMO :headhurt:

Got an fr and everythin iv put on keeps it that way, all original parts. I'm proud to have a fr. U don't try n make somethin into what it isn't
