Basically the processor speed is sped up under software control under frequent activities. Suspect only modern processor they can do that trick on. Why when you click on frequent activities it's snappy.... so the story goes.

26h2 has all been good for me. Whilst in the insider program Microsoft haven't shifted me onto testing something else yet as they did by accident with 25h2 during the year. A group of people that happened to. Just the regular release I'm on. Will have to think about whether I want to get involved with 27h2 testing. I managed to get off the test builds of 26h2 and onto the pre-release then final release. At one point I got stuck on a beta release test and couldn't go back. Anarchy in Microsoft. They seemed to address that small problem.

Suppose to be a completely new build for 27h2 so you'd know. Would be a major update not the incremental thing they have been on for the last three years that has a name... Germanium platform release.

Couple of threads in this area nudging 26h2 on to older hardware that I did. They work fine. If you got hardware that dates to a Leon 3 or Altea that's for you 😉.

That's the enablement package if on 24h2, 25h2 on unsupported PC hardware or the "server method" on anything before that has the minimum configuration but just not that chip that they didn't enforce for Windows 11 which protects you from boot viruses. Enforced by not being able to load Windows 11 onto the hardware unless you use the server method or many of the hacks to bypass it. Server method is the official bypass for IT departments. Once bypassed subsequently the enablement package can be used on the Germanium release. All clear as a bell.

27h2 then Germanium platform may be over so the ISO / server method will be back on for next year unless they get pesky about specific processors that it will run on. Unlikely. Windows 12 could be a candidate for that one. Windows 12 it's thought is kicked down the road. Not for next year. Probably dual releases like Windows 10/11 for a number of years. Get 11/12...

Probably not. That's when we'll move over to something else. My Microsoft Office 97 does enough  . Don't often use it. There are freebies for 365.
The IT policy at my last job has stopped supporting standalone Office suits, with the email system being migrated to O365, since ~2022. Some old folks (like me, out of over 10k employees globally in the company) purchased our own Office2019 in order to have Outlook connecting to the mail server of O365, but Microsoft have warned only the latest version of the standalone office (currently Office2024) will be allowed for this connection, while older versions will have the connection stopped anytime.

In short, home users may find free O365 good enough for their own use, but sizeable firms have no choice but switch to the enterprise version of O365 for their mail servers and business operations.

Yes there has been a Windows update that knocked out previous Office standalone systems but didnt reach 97 😂. Rail roading people into subscription 365. There are freebies for home use. Well us old timers dont believe in paying subscription if we can help it. Thunderbird does me fine for email. I'd use a freebie office if 97 ever failed.
