window dropped into door!

This is the last straw! Once this is fixed car is going up for sale!

The passenger window dropped into the door this evening. I took the door trim off and the winder motor and found the cable is chewed up and hanging through the black cover and wrapped around the motor spindle.

Looking at the VWvortex thread and other threads, I just need the regulator mechanism which is quite cheap, so thats good. My problem is though, that the window is completely dropped into the door. It wont move up at all and I cant get the back plate off to get to the regulator as its all stuck to the window.

Any help as to how I can do it would be great.

I really am sick of this bloody car. I will never buy a Seat or VW again. I have had no end of problems. Grrrr! [:@][:@]

Annnd chilax! :d

Not seeing one in the flesh but isn't the back plate riveted to the door?. Your gonna have to drill them out but only if you've got a suitable replacement in place first. You can get the whole back plate setup or an already assembled cable setup from ebay or the nearest dealer. Make sure any new one has the metal lifters.

Hi thanks.

Yes I read the vwvortex post. Its great, but his glass was hanging up through the door. He simply undid the clips and took the panel out. My problem is, I cant move the window up or down since the regulator wire has unwound and is hanging around all over the place. I cant lift the window at all to get at the clips and therefore cannot get the panel out.

He doesn't drill the rivets out of the panel first, he takes the whole lot out before replaceing it.

Ooo hang on, just typing that has caused sparks in my head. So if I drill the rivets out first, I should be able to remove the backing, then the regulator assembly and window should be left in the door and I can then remove and replace!

Hmmm... that might work! Thanks.

Anymore tips?

What would you say a good car was then?

without getting into a JD power survey or anything, this is just from my own experiences.

I have had my car for a year and a half. Its a 2001 model, only done 50,000 miles so pretty low. In this short time of ownership I have had the following problems:

1: Window regulator going bust!
2. Leaking door seals on all doors.
3. Maf sensor having to be cleaned every two months or so, so that the car will idle properly.
3. Cam belt tensioner breaking and shooting through the cam belt cover - luckily no major damage, except in my wallet - £350 for a cam belt change that wasn't needed for another 30K miles.
4. Brake shoes disintegrating 3 months after changing causing new discs and pads to be replaced.
5. Engine mount wearing and coming loose.
never mind the fact it has numerous rattles and squeaks that drive me mad.

I realise I may just have been unlucky with this car, but its not like these things could have been prevented with just regular servicing - which it has had every year on the dot.

I think for a car thats only 6 years old, thats done less than average miles should be pretty much as new at this time. Maybe I would expect these things from a car that is 15-20+ yrs old with maybe 150,000 miles on the clock but not from what is basically a VW.

My previous car Pug 405. Over 15 years old, 120,000 miles, never let me down. Nothing went wrong with that car for the 4 years I owned it. I bought this leon because I thought I was getting something that would last me for a good few years with very minimal maintenance but that hasn't been the case.

Anyway, without getting too stressed over it, I have ordered the part from Seat and will be fitting it tomorrow. Cant wait!
