Legal is no film on the front AT ALL, you cant touch the fronts. But if I were you I would get 35% all round (as in lets in 35% of light in - dark tint) will look wiked. I have 35% at the back, and 50% at the front, wish i got 35% all round though.

Amendments to Legislation During the early part of 2004, Section 32 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations will be amended to include “Window Tint Films”, where such materials attached to the glass are capable of reducing the Visible Light Transmission of forward windows to below prescribed levels. These changes will be back-dated to become applicable from 1st January 2004.

This will effectively ban virtually all tinted films fitted to windows forward of the B-Post on any vehicle that is to be driven on UK roads.

Read somewhere else that most modern cars, like ours, come from the factory with some form of tint on the window, these are anywhere between 25-28% so even a clear film will push this past 30%.

The police man that told you that you are allowed upto 30% must not know cars come with tinted windows from the factory, which prooves its a minor thing, they dont even know the law!! Hence why i wish i went for darker even more illegal ones! haha.

Strathclyde Police told me personally that u can tint the front sides but only to 30%. They said tinting the windscreen at all was illegal. Anything goes on the rears.

Thats true but you are forgetting that the windows don't allow 100% light through from the factory so the level of tint you can apply is significantly lower than 30%.

During the last 3-4 years the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and other leading window film manufacturers have been putting forward their views, to obtain a clear definition on the law of window tinting. However, as of January 2004 the government has rewritten the law to incorporate a tint level of seventy percent visible light transmission on the front driver and passenger side windows.
Vehicles 10 years and older already have this level of tint is manufactured within the glass from the vehicle manufacturers. This means that if any window tinting company or manufacturer installs films to the front driver or passenger side windows or front quarter windows, they are in infringement of the law.

Most this information can be found on any good tinting companies website, or just google window tint uk law

i got 65% all round,
personally i think cars look odd with just the back or lighter tint at the front, but this is just my opinion.

had mine done by shadez tinting near Basildon. 1/3 of the price of all other quotes i was getting:)
