well its good news for Hamilton, who it appears will struggle in the early part of the season, with the old system he couldbe out of it after 5 races, but with this system he could be just one race off the lead!
I do understand that the current system promotes regular consistent performance rather than the old formula 1 where procedures allowed team 'to go for it' more. - for example when prost, mansell, senna and piquet were racing i think you took your best 11 or 12 results from the 16 allowing you to have some bad days, or failures and not be handicapped for this. Or even towards the end of the season you had to achive a minumum result to increase your points thus encouraging a more aggressive approach.
On a side note i think its too late to change thre rules so significantly as this surely would have massive impact on a teams approach to development. For example, Honda stopped development on last years car early on to benefit this years, and so they are fast at the moment which could prove to be a significant advantage. McLaren look poor and under the old rules would suffer significantly for this, but, if they get it right after 4 or 5 races they will not be handicapped half as much as before.
So all the teams that have done a good job to get the car ready for the WHOLE season, but in doing which may have compromised some areas will be disadvantaged. Perhaps teams will now look at 2 or 3 major steps in delelopment in a season rather than consistent gradual development.
