Bernie has said that the new scoring system could put Jenson Button in contention for the title.

Jenson Button has said that the new system could confuse the fans.

Jenson Button in contention for the title would definately confuse me:whistle:

haha yea. jenson must be laughing, last week he didnt have a drive, now bernie brings in a new scoring system and is tipping him for the title.

jenson should expect a load of stewards decisions to go his way then, cos whoever bernie wants to win the title normally gets decisions going their way!! :cartman:

well its good news for Hamilton, who it appears will struggle in the early part of the season, with the old system he couldbe out of it after 5 races, but with this system he could be just one race off the lead!

I do understand that the current system promotes regular consistent performance rather than the old formula 1 where procedures allowed team 'to go for it' more. - for example when prost, mansell, senna and piquet were racing i think you took your best 11 or 12 results from the 16 allowing you to have some bad days, or failures and not be handicapped for this. Or even towards the end of the season you had to achive a minumum result to increase your points thus encouraging a more aggressive approach.

On a side note i think its too late to change thre rules so significantly as this surely would have massive impact on a teams approach to development. For example, Honda stopped development on last years car early on to benefit this years, and so they are fast at the moment which could prove to be a significant advantage. McLaren look poor and under the old rules would suffer significantly for this, but, if they get it right after 4 or 5 races they will not be handicapped half as much as before.
So all the teams that have done a good job to get the car ready for the WHOLE season, but in doing which may have compromised some areas will be disadvantaged. Perhaps teams will now look at 2 or 3 major steps in delelopment in a season rather than consistent gradual development.

Will it really encourage overtaking? It may at the front of the grid but not further down the field. What's more exiting a dice for the lead or watch 1 driver start or drop down to 15th then overtake at least 13 cars to get to 2nd place. In this system there are no rewards for second place so there no point in doing it. This will will mean a procession with no incentive to over take or race for the remaining places. I suppose what's the point of half of the grid because the lower teams will not win but they could race for points in the old system. This again proves what others say that the FIA = Ferrari International Assistance.

i don't like it, if 1st place get to far ahead and the others realise that they can't catch teams will be turning the engines down to save them for next race where thres a chance at first! either way Hamilton's going to struggle cos his car is way off pace atm, the other teams using the same same engine are considerably quicker aerodynamics not going well.

The rest of the field will be decided on points and the Constructors are as before on points system, so I take back some of my rant above. In sports like Tennis they only take wins into account to become champion. I suppose it would be like the F.A announcing its the total amount of goals who wins the league and not only points.

Imagine that at the end of the season (assuming 17 races) there are eight drivers on two wins apiece (unlikely, but possible),and despite the fact that there is a vast difference in the number of points for each driver (circumstances beyond their control etc) they are all in with a shout of the championship. What could possibly be better than that! We will just have to wait and see. In the last few years it only been the top 2 or 3 drivers who could win the championship in the last races anyway.

Good news at last. This new rule is being postponed until next year.

See F1 section at Autosport.com website (just found out I can't post links yet)

I suspect there will now be some negotiation between FOTA and Spanky Max. If he can't force the 'winner takes all' system through, I expect a larger gap than that proposed by FOTA.
