twas a comment on all smic on lcs mate. wasnt comparing the two.

increasing the flow of air will take more heat off the cooler. was making the venting point.

lol, and i think surface area becomes a limiting factor before available aiflow

As in, i opened up my SMIC to as much air as possible and it made chuff all differance to IAT's.

Shouldn't you be able to 'feel' that prolonged perfomance though?

ie pulls longer through the revs?

possibly yes. more so on repeated runs.

but it wont give you more power as a starting point. it will maintain it more however for longer.

if you do go modding more than a standard remap you could push the timing more if you have better cooling. but then if your going that route then perhaps the FMIC is a better long term option.

so if i strapped an smic to the front of my bumper the temps wouldnt improve ?that suprises me

A larger surface area means it will cool down quickly and also dissipate heat quicker.

A good open location means it will be getting a fresh blast of cool, dense air and will be away from other sources of heat.

So yes, both surface area and location are important. Improving one alone will help, but not so much that it justifies the hundreds of pounds spent, IMO.
