Also just to peg this on the end.
I spoke to a good friend in the office, He runs an Audi S3.
He uses just normal fuel and the only difference hes ever noticed is when its really cold (In the minus figures) he said his S3 runs a little rougher but only at startup tempratures.

Once the cars warm its fine and hes covered over 100K and has had no issues.
I know its a singular instance but I thought I'd check.

Also you get double points for filling up with V-Power and you get a flashy card when you put enough in per month to join the V-Power club :)

all well and good if shell v-power wasn't 3p a litre more expensive than tesco momentum 99 in my area :( i used to use v-power religously but can't justify the extra 3p a litre for what is basically the same fuel nowadays.

tescos fuel is supplied by the cheapest of the big 3 suppliers on the day they require it, so when you buy from tesco (or any other supermarket) you are getting fuel which could be coming from either Shell, BP or Esso

and CJ Mamze is right, 95ron will do a stock LCR no harm, if mapped and you can afford to, chuck 98ron+ in it

i think a mod shud close this thread as its looking like things are starting to get personal between a few folk, the OP was mearly asking if it would be ok to continue running his LCR on 95ron as the previous owner used this and now people are starting to bicker on and on and on and on about 95ron this and 99ron that

wow ruffled your feathers have i??/ blimey get a life dude. I bought my car new...so there

You've not ruffled my feathers at all.
I was simply addressing your points with factual information.
Thus keeping your questions and points on topic.
Also bearing in mind your were implying things that I'd never said and were infact untrue

Also theres no need for personal insults in a factual debate.

... and the fact you bought your car new, I dont understand what relevance this has?
If your reminding me that I'm one of the people that its fallen into the wrong hands of I suppose your right.
Sadly I wasn't able to drive when these cars were new due to the fact I wasn't even old enough to hold a licence.

dude you are the man!!! Hug and make up?

Was just saying mate, dont take offense. Alot of your first points (when you quoted my comments second time round) were confusing in themselves so i wont answer them.

My point is of course you can use 95 fuel but it feels terrible.
I bet on the Evo forums or even VXR forums they dont have these conversations or threads about fuel. It is what Tom said earlier, you shouldnt have a hot hatch if you dont put good fuel in.

And guess what ??? were does the supermarkets buy there fuel from ???? yes the big fuel companys ??? esso, bp, shell, taxaco have fuel oil terminals across the uk no supermarkets do because they buy there un additived fuel from the big boys, apart from tesco 99 or the morrisons e85 obviously as that it made specially for them....
so why would asda be any worse than others imo....

im also a petrol tanker driver wont mention my company name but i work for 1 of or should i say the biggest oil company in the world and shell, sainsburys tesco's some texaco's are pulling out of my work daily, apart from the additive been injected n when we load which is minute the fuel in the ground is still the same when it comes down the pipeline from the refinery's.....

This dispute goes on so many forums and at always gets out of hand rants ??? why !!! we all know what we can individually afford and want to use in our cars...

Can I just say one really obvious thing before this argument gets out of hand?

95 petrol will not DAMAGE your 1.8T engine, it will make it UNDERPERFORM. You can use it safely in the LCR. But what's the point of owning a car with a highly tuned engine?

Aww its OK :)
Its not going to get out of hand.
He offered a Hug, I'm gladly accepting and if he's lucky there will be some events of which we cant describe on a family friendly forum.

Thats how it works right?.... Starts with a hug?

Haha...this thread has gone a bit insane. It's all in the manual in the Cupra R section - the car is designed to run on 98 RON, but use 95 if 98 is not available (it's not going to cause damage).

Thought i'd stick my nose in!

Can i just point out that 5th gear did a test on this whole "v-power/normal fuel" stuff before on THREE different cars

Think it was something like Ford Fiesta, VW Golf GTi & a Subaru Impreza.

The V-power etc made no difference to the "small car" compared to the normal cheap fuel

Made extremeley little difference to the GTi, about an extra 1-2bhp.

Added about 5-9bhp on the Impreza.

fifth gear done a test on standard shell petrol vs v power petrol. they tested a clio sport, something else and a remapped scooby.

the clio made 3-5bhp gain or along those lines, where the scooby made a massive 20bhp gain with v poewr as it was mapped to suit it.

i think the article is available online if you want to google it.

Christ Almighty, I have to address all your points now.
This is hopeless.

Your statement in itself is confusing Dolby.
I live a little over 2 and a Half miles from work, I work from 6-7 in the morning to 7pm at night and my flat currently is so small that I can't keep a bike in it. So instead I have to drive. I live in inner Cardiff so I can't put my foot down nor should I not only because it would be dangerous to everyone else but my car wont be up to temprature!

I currently can't really afford premium fuel and other premium items as I'm supporting my girlfriend through Uni, I apologise for not fitting into your Golden Elite of LCR drivers but I'm doing the best I can.

I find it quite confusing as to why you decieded to own and drive an lcr when you only live in a small flat you couldn't fit a bike in, also financially you seem to be worse off and on top of all that your supporting your girlfriend thru uni as well, arnt you living a bit beyond your means there? Also you say your cars mapped to 275bhp so surely that puts it in a high performance car bracket and I don't care what any1 says, a car with that power needs good stuff put into it, but like you said you can't afford it, so do you change the oil every 5ooo miles? Can you afford to do a service every 10,000 miles, could you afford the parts when they need to be changed? Can you afford to maintain the car without putting budget parts into it? Would you be better of driving a diesel? Cheap and cheerfull, just find it confusing why you own a lcr as financially things seem tight

I appreciate your points and from a sensible viewpoint yes a diesel would be the better option, but whilst I do support the Mrs through Uni I've got to have my own things to keep me happy :)

Normally we do alright but with people on my street ruining my car tyres, Two had holes put in the sidewall and also one of the mrs's tyres going flat (Her driving around in it)
a new Car battery and alternator for her and Christmas its put me in a bit of a financial muddle!

Hence why at the moment I'm using the cheaper fuel.
I always filled the Ibiza Cupra with Premium and I normally (Before the financial woes) filled the Leon with Premium but as said before this is more a topic on whether your car can run 95 ron fuel without damage :)

And even on a mapped car "I" can, but then my car isn't mapped to only take specific fuel.

I'm not claming you'll get the same performance, I'm just stating it wont damage the car :)

Edit:
Also, Sorry addressing the small flat bit it is infact tiny but Whilst I support her through Uni I need to keep some money for myself aswell and my car is my passion so I could sell the LCR, buy another PD100 and buy a bigger flat...

But I want to blast around the brecons and castle coombe :)
Plus the mrs couldn't afford to pay any more per month on rent so we are where we are :)
