Sooner have an RS3 and put the windows down for some wind in the hair. And even 38k for an old shape A3 with an awesome engine and crap handling is waaaay steep. Bet you could spec a Golf like that to over 40k with the handbag and hairdryer holders, flowery surround on the sun visor mirror etc.

Why are people comparing 5k Leon's with 40k rag top Golfs out of interest?

Iam quite liking the leon mk3 at the moment. The 150 TDI DSG with f1 paddle shifts or the 180 TDI Manual. Shame they don't do that in DSG

Black with sunroof, all the extras except wheels as ill stick my own on.

Seems an odd comparison to make it been the softtop and from reading the thread I think if it had been thd hardtop more people would say yes.
I've had our Leon since new and also have a Mk6 GTI for the past 3 years, I actually prefer the Leon as an everyday car.

Would I change my Leon for a ragtop R? No.
Would I change my Leon for a golf mk6 R? No actually I wouldn't.
Would I change my Leon for a golf mk6 GTD or mk7 GTD? No but that would be a harder choice to make.

The mk2 Leon is the reason I bought a mk6 golf I just don't like the Mr potato head looks of the mk2. The mk3 is much nicer but I think somethings they got wrong with it looks wise, rear light size etc but they did a better job of it than VW did with the mk7 imo as I'm not a fan of the mk7 front beak or small slanty rear lights.

I'd still say no, Golf Rs are so overpriced. £35k for a second hand one, while you can get a 2013 S3 brand new with more power for a shade over £30k. It's just a fanboi special whether in tintop or headscarf version...

Diesel ragtop is the biggest car sin ever... Wouldn't pay that much for a VW, nice car but the price puts it in performance saloon car territory.

VWs are just overpriced now, We had a mk5 GTI DSG TFSI for my wife and it was expensive to buy, run, repair, service, We rarely got any enjoyment out of it.

She moved to a Skoda Octavia vRS with the TDI 170 engine and its so much more of a car.
