Your Running costs of cupra 210/225 please?

Hi,

I am thinking about getting a 2003 cupra and wondered how much cupras cost to run MPG, fragility etc, if you could give me some idea I would be grateful?

i get 23 mpg regular but i have seen 32 on the motorway. hard as nails engine, but on a 2003 model you will have leaky door seals, dodgy coilpacks(although as its 6yrs old im sure they have been sorted now), not much more mate as they are basically and audi so they will go forever

They are really chaep these days, full service history and low mileage, you really cannot go wrong. As petrol prices decrease, its just the weather thats not on your side. Im puttin in average £20-30 a week and have a few quid saved for a rainy day and whatever she may throw at me (the car - she wouldnt dare!)

Even if its a high mileage motor thats been treated right will last you.
The Cupra R is an awesome machine, just cos it says seat, whatever it is at the traffic lights or down the motorway or on the track, drivers think your easy... then you fly past!

Im sure others can only say good things, appart from door seals which is an easy job as mentioned. I havent had one coilpack go on me and one has been replaced and im still carrying one in the boot incase 8 months later!

Mine in this weather is getting me 20mpg round down as im doing the worst sort of journey - 2-5 miles when engine doesnt even get up to temp, medium journeys around 27mpg and motorway max 34mpg. Mines at 60k and feels great although ive only owned it 7 months. Serviced myself for about £80 and is as easy as my 2000 golf gti was. Tax/Insurance/service parts cost very close to cupra prices bar brakes. Like all cars if it doesnt look like its been looked after it probably hasnt so look for a car owned by an enthusiast not a boy racer.

Biggest expense when I had my LCR was tyres and brake pads. Pads are very easy to change yourself if you feel up to it. Expect 25mpg avg. if you want to have fun.

Running cost wise I get a regular 35 mpg on my commute to work, and that's A roads, no motorways or dual carriageway. I've moved from a Mazda RX8 which did 225 miles to a £50 tank to a Cupra R which I haven't had under 340 miles to £50. I'm well impressed with the mileage I get! Awesome car with excellent performance.

Im currently averaging 28mpg,had it 6 months so far and mileage is currently at 73k on an 05 plate cupra r 225(was a company car previous to me owning it) has been fully serviced by a seat dealer every 10k so far and is absolutly solid hasnt missed a beat once.Based on mine if you find a well cared for one it will do you proud regardless of mileage or age.

I was putting about £80 a week in mine which has now come down to about £60 a week, though I travel 250 miles a week purely for work so I probably do about 350 miles every week in total.

Service coming up too and it's going to need two front tyres in a couple of months... so running them isn't cheap but it's well worth it

average 18-25mpg locally on short trips ~15miles on country back roads; see 35mpg on motorways or just over 40mpg if i sit at 60mph on the motorway - but i get very bored and never stick at it! lol

I ve had mine 3 years from new and although the design is not the "latest technology", as already said its pretty dam effective. The LCR uses some choice bit s from the VAG range and as a package its hard to beat.

There are a few members on here that have regretted or certainly missed the LCR when moving on to another car.

MPG I usually average 32 on a good run, front tyres lasted 15K and I m still on original pads @ 20K. As a daily drive the costs are reasonable and even when booting it compares well with more expensive cars with the same or less performance.

There are some well looked after examples out there, just dont be in a rush, wait for the right one as the market is on your side.

Many people use this as an opportunity to get the water pump changed and the impellor upgraded to a metal one (from plastic). I never got mine to that mileage to find out how much it cost, but I would put aside about £750.

my cambelt and waterpump (metal one) was around 300 quid inc labour at JKM (top notch VAG specialist)....nearer double that at SEAT.....

On a normal journey with a balanced case of a heavy/light right foot, I see an average of about 25 - 29mpg. On a day I am feeling sensible and happy driving 'normally' I see about 32mpg with my highest being 36.2mpg on a trip using A & B roads. Motorway mileage is around 33mpg for me.

Confirming the above really. Around 27mpg average over A and B roads. Up to 32mpg on long motorway journeys.

Tyres are pricey, but then you get what you pay for, and I prefer to be stuck to the road rather than sliding off it.

Servicing and parts are pretty reasonable if you go to an independent VAG specialist.

i commute 25 miles each way to work, 5 days and cost about £27 if i dont do much overtaking its well over 38mpg, and have seen 43mpg, driving it before it comes into full boost, cruising about 60, im well impressed with it!! cheap and loads of power on tap!!

I think the biggest running cost in the future has been missed here. Road Tax. It's in a very high one.

Just so you can compare against the TDi's, mine gets around 30mpg in this cold never realyl heating up on the 3 mile communte, once got 66mpg on the motorway at a constant 60 but usually averages around 44mpg at 85-95mph...on a runway??

the only problem is,the cupra R has the capabilities of being a great mpg machine with low costs...but being only human,you will succumb to the urge to put the foot down now and again,ruining the 32mpg youre sitting at....

indeed - the lcr does encourage shocking mpgs!

my last car blew up (bloody citroen's) so i had a day to find a new car. i got mine 2 weeks ago, 2001 (x) leon cupra (in Yellow), its had one previous owner (it was a lease car) and has just done 82K. Someone i worked with had an lcr and was always filling his up but he had a lead right foot so i was a bit sceptical when i found my car but i can say that even though i give it the beans sometimes (only when warmed up though), i normally get 300+ miles out of a tank. Last time i filled mine from empty it cost £44.

I'm doing a 200 mile m/way trip soon so will see how well it fairs on a long journey.

The car that blew up was a Citroen ZX Volcane 2.0i, it is thirstier than the seat and cost almost as much to insure (even though it was 5 years older and worth a lot less).

I only wished i'd bought a lc or lcr sooner. I'm looking forward to spending some time smartening mine up over the summer.
