It seams bizzare that an item can get "e mark" accreditation when its clearly not up to scratch!

the glowing problem obviously isnt a safety issue (as its E marked)... like i said before, it doesn't glow much (you can only just notice at night) but when u use the brake peddle the 3rd brake light in the spoiler still lights up VERY bright!

£5 IF that! ;)

Well i guess that depends on where you get them..

I found a site that sells them all wired up, just need to crimp the wires on...
and the resistor is in ceramics so remains cool, even after 30mins on the brake pedal... i tried it...and it was cool as when i first put it in...;)

Resistor for Raid lights

As i said, its about £10 all in, its USA based, but with the dollar to the pound conversion being to high you get it pretty cheap, takes about a week to arrive but they are ceramic incased so no real heat gets to the heat sink covers! Arrives with the scotch locks too pre coated with a die-electric grease in the slots! ;)
I got two as been suggested, and all was fine, no light, no fault code and perfect operating lights!!

Yep same resistor i think... did yours have a cermic insert in it...??

The ones i imported have thick wire already soldered and heat shrinked to the wire, the wire is pretty thick 10 gauge i think if my mermory serves me right!

no idea if it has a ceramic insert?! but it has a heat-sink as you can see!

as for the wire, i found some spare wire from an old Hella fog light wiring kit, so used that... as you can see from the pic its thicker than the OE/raid wires!

just a thought about the resistor - what's it like spec wise for heat ?

have known ceramic ones in past get real hot and see thats got an ali housing - just wondered igf you'd had em more than finger warm in a minute ?

Hey, just about to apply the resistor to my raid rear lights.

Quick question, how did you figure out the resistance of the resistor needed ?

have seen some resistor kits on an auction site but they all seem to be 6ohm not 12.

ta

someone on here worked it out with his friend who was a sparky from memory and I think he suggested using two resistors for safety... ie. only one is needed as i checked when i fitted the first one but decided to put the second one in as suggested for precaution!

no sure but at the time i did touch them and they got warm, BUT only when you hold your foot on the brake peddle for a while! so its not an issue really... I simply use my hand brake more at traffic lights now just incase!
